April 27, 2013 at 11:02 am #252634April 27, 2013 at 12:31 pm #252635Okay folks. As you know I won’t be attending this year due to Air Force commitment to be out west that week and weekend. I have my Carlisle sticker, and will not be able to use it. If it’s okay with Carlisle, I’ll offer it up to club memres if they want it. Send me a pm.

"Drive Happy"May 8, 2013 at 5:55 pm #252637Hey guys. I’ve gotten confused. Are we going to follow along with the Speedsters on Friday or have an intimate TD dinner with our own kind?
I vote that we go our own way, but if the majority wants to go with the crowd, I’m in.May 8, 2013 at 6:24 pm #252638Roy – I was not sure either – the cruise sounds like fun – maybe the cruise and then our own cookout and downtown? I am open to the majority as well.
May 8, 2013 at 7:46 pm #252639Well, on reading back through previous comments it looks like everyone agrees to a cookout. Maybe it was decided, but I don’t know you folks well enough to know if it is ON or still being discussed. So, unless someone changes it, for Friday, Julie and I will plan on registering for the Autocross 3-4pm and then a cookout and then, if my body allows, a cruise downtown.
Wobby, if you want us to bring anything that can be transported in a TD, we would be happy to.Bill, it sounds like you are in contact with Donna? If so, does she have any interest in the Autocross? I only mention it because she apparently plans on arriving Sat. Registration is on Fri.May 8, 2013 at 7:54 pm #252640Donna has not committed to the autox.
Roy, my son is traveling with us to Carlisle, so he has room to haul almost anything. The car he’s bringing is totally gutted.
I’m all for the cookout with Wobby, then a cruise to downtown.Bill Ascheman

There was a oil tanker fire today on the ramp from northbound
Interstate 81 to westbound Route 22/322 in the Harrisburg
area….traffic detours are a mess beyond discription. ….they say RT
81 North will be closed at this point for a number of days until they
can demolish the bridge ramp above Rt 81..I’ll post details as they
become available…..Link : http://www.pennlive.com/midsta…ted_along_inter.html

From Bruce Stumpp,
To all Speedster, Spyder, Cabriolet, Coupe and MG owners who have RSVP’d:
Here are important details of the Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle weekend.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Attached
is the tentative weekend schedule. This schedule is very close to what
we’ll be doing although we may have some minor tweaks at the start of
the weekend.Please
review this schedule in advance and let me know if you have any
questions. Copies of the final schedule will be posted on the side exit
door of the host hotel, in the Marriott hospitality suite, and in the
club tent on the Carlisle showfield.ANNUAL RAFFLE
The
annual raffle is the only fund raiser we have to cover miscellaneous
weekend expenses. This year we’ve moved the raffle from Saturday before
the awards dinner to Saturday after the awards dinner to avoid a big rush prior to leaving for dinner. The raffle will be held in the Marriott hospitality suite at approximately 9:30 PM or as soon as we return from the awards dinner. Please
consider bringing a donation for the raffle in the form of new parts,
memorabilia, books, car care products, related items, etc. Thanks to the
sponsoring manufacturers we will also have a few cash items in the
raffle. Tickets will be sold there. The raffle is always a fun time so
please plan to join us.CHANGES AND REMINDERS
1. The host hotel is the Courtyard
Harrisburg West/Mechanicsburg located at 4921 Gettysburg Road,
Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania 17055 USA Phone: 1-717-766-9006. Make sure
you go to the right hotel. Last year some people mistakenly went to a
previous years’ hotel so save yourself some extra driving. All cruises
will initiate from this location.2.
For those who are interested, Friday morning there will be a rural
cruise to the showfield. It’s going to be a somewhat direct ride but
more scenic and laid back than a blast down I-81.3.
Friday afternoon there are three cruise options being offered for
leaving from the Carlisle fairgrounds: (a) stop by the Sports Emporium
for some slick track/gokart action, (b) drive by Leo’s homemade ice
cream shop, or (c) drive directly back to the hotel. There will be
sign-up sheets in the club showfield tent so we know who is doing which
cruise. Written directions will be provided and we’ll be looking for
volunteers to be cruise leaders of each of the cruises. Please note: the afternoon/evening cruise will leave the Marriott PROMPTLY at 2:00 PM so – whichever option you choose – manage your time wisely.4. Remember: The Friday cruise to dinner will leave PROMPTLY at 2:00 PM
from the Marriott. This is an early start to allow sufficient time to
do the “Gold Mine Run” cruise, tour Bruce Larson’s personal museum (USA-1 NHRA Funny Car Owner/Driver), and
get to the Stoney Creek Inn before the evening dinner rush.5.
At the Stoney Creek Inn they will provide a special, limited menu, for
us to order from. It’s getting more and more difficult to find a
restaurant that will allow us to show up with 60-80 people, order from
the menu and pay via separate checks. Our expectation is the limited
menu will allow the kitchen to service everyone in a timely manner as
well as service their regular customers too.6. Every
year we have a group photo taken Saturday afternoon on the showfield.
The past couple of years Carlisle management has brought a tall photo
crane and taken some great aerial photos. We’ll try to coordinate the
time this happens but we are pretty much at the mercy of the Carlisle
management. Keep in touch with us at the tent and we’ll try to
coordinate as best we can – try not to miss this opportunity to be a
part of the group photo.7.
New this year is a pool party Saturday afternoon after returning from
the showfield. This will be a great chance to unwind, socialize and,
hopefully, cool off from the hot weather before getting ready for
dinner. The times are tentatively set for 3:30-5:00, BYOB and snacks.
Remember – no glass by the pool.8.
The Saturday evening awards dinner will be held at the Radisson Hotel
Harrisburg, about a 5-mile/12-minute drive from the Marriott. We will
have a one-hour cocktail hour served at our dedicated cash bar with free
appetizers provided by the sponsoring manufacturers. Awards will be
presented for the “Longest Distance Driven – Speedster”, “Longest
Distance Trailered – Speedster”, “Longest Distance Traveled – Coupe”,
“Longest Distance traveled – Spyder”, “Longest Distance Traveled – MG”.
We’ll also celebrate ten years at Carlisle and door prizes will be
given away at the end of the evening.9. All participants will receive a 10-year commemorative poster compliments of the sponsoring manufacturers.
10.
Every night is party time in the Marriott hospitality suite. This is a
terrific time to relax, socialize and meet the other participants.
Stop by and join us!We’ll see you in Carlisle!

May 11, 2013 at 1:06 pm #252643I-81 Accident Update
We’re watching the situation for ya. But as of Saturday morning, May 11, I-81 Southbound is still closed before the 22/322 interchange.
PennDOT’s alert as of Saturday afternoon, May 11, says I-81 will be closed until Monday morning. The closure runs from Exit 59 (PA-581) west of Harrisburg to Exit 70 (I-83) east of Harrisburg.
Under normal conditions, the I-83 to PA-581 detour adds only 8 minutes to the trip.
At 1:00 Saturday afternoon, PennDOT’s traffic camera shows delays for a couple miles leading into the 81/83 interchange, but no delays at the interchange itself. There is some traffic at 83/581.
Here are the directions:
I-81 Exit 70 on the left to I-83 S/US-322 E.
Proceed 8.3 miles, to PA-581 West
Proceed 7.3 miles to Exit 1B to merge onto I-81 South. Here is the traffic camera site (zoom in to the Harrisburg area):

May 11, 2013 at 4:54 pm #252645Just so everyone is clear: this mess is going to bother those coming from points NORTH. All us in MD and Dixie are relatively unaffected, right Paul?
May 11, 2013 at 9:48 pm #252646Correct Ed.
You come up 83, right?

May 11, 2013 at 10:19 pm #252647That is one possibility. 83/81…? I went all non-highway the first year. I’ll have to get a map to see what that road was.
May 11, 2013 at 10:31 pm #252648Coming north. I wonder who that might effect. I’m planning on 12 to 15. More is fine. I’m thinking. Some sort of horse forces about 4 or 430. People they, will bring terms own cocktails. The meal will be a vemont smoked ham. Macaroni and Vermont cheddar and Vermont maple infused backed beans. Then we can head downtown. Looking forward to seeing you all.
May 12, 2013 at 7:22 am #252649Not sure what you’re saying there, Rich. But I got the ham & mac & cheese & baked beans part.
Very much looking forward to seeing you too.
–And meeting Mrs. Wobby!
May 12, 2013 at 8:44 am #252650Okay ed let’s try again. The auto speller is taking over. I think if everyone is responsible for their own drinks that would be good. We will have hor dorves. At the motor home around 400 or 430. I would guess ham mac and cheese and baked beans would be served around 530ish or whenever the majority decides. I’m planning on heading downtown for the gathering of like minded individuals. Weather I ride walk or bike will largly depend on the amount of alcohol. I’ve ingested. If anyone wants to call with questions or thoughts your welcome to 8027935659. Also I’m. Still responsible for a tent or two. Was that one 10×20 or 2 10×10. I can’t. Recall. Let me know what works best.
May 12, 2013 at 9:52 am #252651Well, the past couple weeks didn’t work out the way I planned but it still looks like I will make it to Carlisle. Monday before last I installed a hitch and brake controller on my conversion van. The night after I finished the van and all the tools and other stuff that was in it was stollen. I will now be using my wife Barbara’s GMC Envoy as my tow vehicle which means installing still another brake controller. Unfortunately Barbara’s back is not doing well and the trip in the Envoy would be a bit much so I will be making the trip solo.
Still plan to arrive Thursday afternoom and to attend the cook out Friday and the cruise in town.Don Loveless

Rochester, MIMay 12, 2013 at 12:02 pm #252652In response to rollie. My wife is an unaccomplished knitter and is bringing her yarn. I’m also on the grounds and will be set up onthursday am. I’ll be the George boy with vt plates
May 12, 2013 at 1:03 pm #252653I wil bring a couple of “period correct” paperback novels.* Karen is coming too. Don’t know what she’s bringing. Probably period-incorrect novels.
*Sample dialogue:
I saw her head for the car. She was calling, “Oh please! Please take me away! Please hurry!”She pitched her traveling case into the Jaguar, scrambled in and wriggled across the seat like a little fish. Her gray eyes searched my face, “I’ve got to get away,” she said, through the fear in her. “I’m scared! She hates me, and she’s dangerous.“
“Who,” I asked.
“My father’s new wife. She’s going to kill me.”
I stared at her legs. “Let’s go.” . . .
May 12, 2013 at 5:18 pm #252654I’m undecided which post is more strange. This last post from Ed or the Wobby’s auto speller post from yesterday.
