Roy, I thought I was suppose lock it and tie it secure. It’s been a while since I towed something. Which is best?
Jack, sorry you can’t make it, family first though.

You absolutely do not want the steering locked, or tied or secured. You want to allow the front tires on your TDr to be able to turn and follow your tow vehicle. Tow it around town for a couple of miles and watch it follow you. Some rather large forces would make towing with locked steering dangerous.May 13, 2014 at 3:49 am #258545Sorry to miss you, Jack. You mentioned VA Beach? Cool!

May 15, 2014 at 6:57 am #258551Still pondering whether I should drag Bridget to the show or not. On the good side: the wheels are on. The engine and trans are in. I can (and have) fit all the body parts back on so she looks complete. I could do this.
But on the bad side, right now the old wires are sort of dangling down near the drive axles, so I’d have to pin that up somehow. Seats, carpet, all that still out. The mocked-up PVC coolant lines are held in by zip ties at the back–OK for the three mile trip to the muffler shop but I’m not sure about the highway. The rad has a good lower mount (almost) but I’m still pondering the upper. It could not go in place but would have to be stored in the passenger well or something. The front trans mount is just sort of jammed in place, awaiting welds. The new wire harness is still in a box.I’d love to get the car to the point where we could turn her over, maybe get her to fire up. That’d be some motivation. But the increased risk of towing her there (in the rain) and the prospect of being able to get any real work done on the show field (slim, in my view) are making me rethink. That and the fact that my tow vehicle threw a code yesterday. Looks like an EGR thing–could be nothing to sweat. But could be trouble on the road…I could go either way right now. I think I know what you’re gonna say but I would like to hear it all the same.By the way. I have a brand new GoPro camera kit I will be bringing for Auto X (and other) action-capturing purposes. There are some Auto Xers still, right?edsnova2014-05-15 07:03:24
May 15, 2014 at 8:43 am #258552Duct tape…lots and lots and lots of duct tape. That’s the answer!
Just wrap Bridget in stretch wrap and then cover that with duct tape. I’m pretty sure most of the unattached/loose pieces will still be there when you arrive at Carlisle 2014.Seriously, it sounds like it would be more trouble than it is worth trying to take Bridget to Carlisle on a tow bar. Take the time to finish it right and shoot for next year like I am.Do take lots of pictures and post them.May 15, 2014 at 11:52 am #258553Ed, while we all would love to stand at I around Bridget and marvel at your work, I think that we all, including you Ed, know that Steve is right. Maybe next year.
May 18, 2014 at 6:11 pm #258554Made it back from Carlisle safe and sound. Great time, met a few of the members, nice to put a face to the names.
Only 5 TD’s made it. Ed and Paul made it too but Paul brought the new Speedster. WOW!!! what a car. Wish I could afford one. NICE Ride..
Elvis was there too. Interesting guy.
Saw one of the speedster guys on the way home on I 70. I think it was Steve Prichart from IN. Wish I had gotten his phone # when I met him.. When we past each other we were only about 10 minutes from my house, might have been a good time for him to stretch his legs and have a cold one. I know I was ready when I came in the door.
May 18, 2014 at 6:27 pm #258555Hope everybody had a good time and a safe trip home. I guess nobody took any pics…..
May 18, 2014 at 7:28 pm #258556Who is Elvis ? I had a interesting time at hotel room 4 am screaming, yelling. Look out peep hole no one there . Step into hallway. A couple were yelling obscenities , pushing, name calling . Through my stuff in car on the road 4:30 am . Nice time at the show good to meet everyone . Hope we get larger numbers next year .
May 18, 2014 at 7:39 pm #258557Elvis impersonator (retired) was walking around at Carlisle. I got a couple pictures but camera failed early in. I’ll try to post what I got.
May 19, 2014 at 8:26 am #258558I saw that Elvis guy & thought “he looks like Elvis. I bet he gets that all the time. Probably sick of it.”
Great to see you, Montie and glad you made it back home safe. Same to you Greg.Bill & Paul, sorry I missed you Sunday a.m. when I left. I had a great time–especially thanks to Bill, who hauled my sorry ass around all weekend and even let me drive his unruly beast on the track, where I developed an even greater admiration for Bill’s ability to keep it pointed the right way.Bill’s son Dave was awesome again as well.It was also great to meet the Greigs, and to see Roy and Julie.Hope we’ll see the full East-of-the-Mississippi TDR contingent next May.BTW, after I got home yesterday & mowed the lawn and did two loads of laundry I noticed the internet was out so I decided to be productive. Here, ladies and gentleman, is the infamous “Wheel o’ Death” homemade vehicle speed sensor, mocked up and ready for paint.I trimmed another quarter inch from the blades after this pic was taken. Painted it silver too–but only because I could not find my black wheel paint.May 19, 2014 at 8:49 am #258559Here’s the TD Crew for 2014:
Dale, Roy, Bill, Montie and Al.May 19, 2014 at 9:12 am #258560Ed:I am wondering if it would work to take a disc and cut the correct number of windows (five?) into it leaving a full outer rim. It believe that would work to activate the proximity switch and it seems like it would be a safer design. Is there a lack of available space at the transmission end that won‘t let you put the set-up there? It looks like your sensor is mounted to the outboard end of the drive. I am wondering what the continual flexing of the wires that come from the sensor when the suspension moves (however small the movement is) will do in relation to the long term viability of those wires. If the sensor was mounted securely at the transmission end, the wires would have no flexing to contend with.I’m just bouncing ideas off you. We don’t want roadside breakdowns if we can help it. Feel free to shoot me down if this idea won’t work.May 19, 2014 at 9:15 am #258561“Elvis” is actually an old friend of mine.
He is retired now, but at one point was one of the top ten Elvis impersonators in the USA. His stage name is Ronnie Allyn. Toured with a full backing band, back up singers, the whole nine yards. He retired a bunch of years ago. He’s a really good guy!And no, I am not making this up.Paul Mossberg

May 19, 2014 at 10:02 pm #258562That is cool, Paul. Is there anyone famous you don’t know?
Steve: Yeah, I wanted to put the wheel on the transmission but the frame horns won’t allow for it. I like your idea of punching holes in the disk & wish I thought of it. But I don’t think it’s going to be a problem the way it is. The wire on the sensor is nice and floppy. Should not mind the control arm flex at all. The “blades” are not so big and they are nice and stiff once the CV bolts are cinched in. If a cat or something ever gets under there where it can get cut up it will have bad problems anyway, what with the tire right there and the car moving. At 70 mph the blades will be turning about 950 RPM, so I doubt very much that they will flex enough to mess up the sensor.Fingers crossed on all this, of course.May 19, 2014 at 10:40 pm #258563Ed….no. 😎
Cool shot from Carlisle Productions of a few TDr’s arriving…
