Hi Guys,
Has anyone had a top made locally? I see on the Magic site all the parts that are required and that you can purchase all of them sans the canvas. I was wondering if that was a better proposition than spending the $600 ish to buy a complete one from them and then having it fitted locally. Why not start at that local point? Or does anyone know where we can get a top at a more reasonable price????
I have had the Migi for some 5 days, during this time I have been tinkering with it every day. Yesterday afternoon was its first time out for an extended test drive. It was fun fun fun, To much fun according to the local Sheriff who pulled me for speeding, Oooops. Half way through the process we started talking about the car. The result was NO TICKET because I just like the car sir!
Yes another reason as to why I like this thing so much.

May 15, 2015 at 1:02 pm #264496I actually had a top made for mine locally. When I bought the car originally it had all the hardware but the original top was rotted and torn. I took it to a local small canvas shop. They did a pretty good job, rear window is a little off but unless you’re looking you’d never know. Cost about $300 so I’m happy with it.
Spend a little time checking out local places and see what kind of work they have done before.Glad to hear you’re having fun, that’s what these cars are for after all right? 😀May 15, 2015 at 7:07 pm #264497Ok so here is what I am doing for a new top. I contacted one of the local fabric stores, and asked who they knew that could give me sewing lessons. I found a lady who for $15 per hr. She is helping me to make a pattern, and to learn how to use a heavy Singer sewing machine. So far I have $120 in sewing lessons, and 9 feet of Marine grade vinyl that I got a coupon for one half off. So far a total of $146, with two more sewing lessons and voila, I have a new top. This is a good thing as now that I have the skills, I will sew a new tonneau cockpit cover, a new cover for the seats on my Classic Roadsters TDr and a boot cover as well. My total upholstery job’s budget is $350. Another thought I had to save money, was to contact the local Vo Teck teaching class of upholstery to have them re make a top for me as a class project. Gee being retired I have the time and can learn a new skill and save money as well ………… Just my two cents

I was lucky and bought a un built kit and it came with a spare top. I did make a tonno cover for it though. took home economics in high school many years ago.
May 15, 2015 at 9:08 pm #264499Hi Dave/George et al.
I am also retired so learning something new might not be a bad idea!, I like saving money! As for the boat people doing the job, I will have to look around. I live 30 miles or so out into the desert in Arizona boats are kind of in short supply but you never know what you can find if you look! LOL.
My car came with no top of any kind, just a toneau cover that the previous owner had made at a local upholstery shop. They wont do a top! I asked. Making it myself really appeals to me though! hmmm

I see a future
for Dave, sewing new roofs for all of us! 😉And don’t worry, Dave says the rear window is coming!

"Drive Happy"September 16, 2015 at 3:20 pm #264502Make sure the shop uses DOT grade windows. My first one was built by a top shop that mostly does boats and they aren’t designed to handle road speeds. Tell us about the speeding ticket, brother. Were you having more fun than the law allows?
October 31, 2015 at 11:13 am #264503I’m impressed with your top!
I’m making progress on my window replacement.
I purchased some heavy gauge clear vinyl, found a local upholstery repair shop, dropped off the top for estimate.
Hope to hear from them Tues.Amor Conquista Todo
