Welcome to spring driving weather everybody 🙂 we’re just now able to get to put some real love into our Schwepps Special. New tranny mount this week so we can start driving and discover our other needs.
Before I pull the stripped Allen out of my lower drivers door hinge can anyone tell me if the nut is captured or am I going to have to pull the upholstery too?

April 3, 2012 at 1:06 pm #249949The best I know mine is circa 1983 or 1984 from British Coach Works. So a Duchess uses a wood block backing with a T nut? That might encourage me to gamble. I really need that lower bolt replaced so I can true the door, then I can address the slightly sprung lock.oldroadie2012-04-03 13:07:04
April 3, 2012 at 5:01 pm #249950The upholstery on my BCW is just screwed into the ‘glass. Goes back on easy. On the part that’s rug you should be able to find the phillips heads by probing around with a screw driver. By all means do that.
Most of the parts on this car were assembled with fender washers and lock washers, but the door hinges might have come pre-attached to either the body or the door itself.
Good luck, and let us know what you find.
Also, while you’re at it, check your front latch to make sure the dowel sets in the hole, and doesn’t just snag on that c-shaped secondary catch.
April 3, 2012 at 6:26 pm #249951Â When I got my BCW, thedoors were off the car . I attached them with bolts and nuts that were provided by the previous owner. I did not see any other way to do it.
April 3, 2012 at 7:37 pm #249952My guess, you need to pull the side panels.
But I’m talking from my Duchess build experience.

April 3, 2012 at 9:54 pm #249954If you want to take a look, the Duchess door hanging is on page 37 of the assembly manual
(page 15 of 24 of part 2, body assembly on the manuals download page)ÂTied to link to the manual but the link will not work.ÂAt the bottom of the “Download Manuals page, click on part 2 of the Classic Roadsters Duchess assembly manual. The pages noted above show the hinge attachment to the door and to the side panel.PMOSSBERG2012-04-05 10:01:20

April 4, 2012 at 11:56 am #249956For the door hinge mount in the door I fiberglassed 3/8″ plywood reinforcement to the inside edge of the door and installed T-nuts so the door hinges can be removed without removing the upholstered panel. The hinges are mounted to the body using flat washer, lock washer and nut. Some of the flat washers needed to be trimmed to lie flat. A long ratchet extension was required to tighten the nuts.Above is a copy of the Optional Slam Lock Assembly instruction sheet I used for installing the door lock.Don Loveless

Rochester, MIApril 5, 2012 at 8:17 am #249957I wasn’t clear, the stripped Allen is in the body side attachment and not the door itself. Thanks for the door diagrams and advice on the latch but my problem is the very bottom bolt in the body side of the hinge. Looks like its going to be easy out territory and panel removal day, that’s okay because it’s drippy and it’s a fair weather car.
