Several issues arose from my maiden voyage and all have been addressed except one.
After I have started the engine, if I turn the key off to kill the engine it just keeps on running. It’s not a dieseling problem. The engine just keeps on running at full idle. The only way to shut it off is to pull the coil wire from the distributor.
After happening several times I went inside for dinner and came out later to find that the coil was extremely hot. I disconnected the battery and it cooled down after a while. Obviously power is running constant to the coil.
What is odd is that when I first finished the wiring and tried to start the car I didn’t have this problem. They key worked fine.
Any ideas?
August 30, 2012 at 9:57 pm #251529Could be a short in your ignition switch, eh? Or something simpler still–a wire got crossed? Couple coming up that are similar color and/or thickness?
Should not be too hard to find with the trusty test light.

If the cutoff switch has constant voltage that valve will always be open. VW added that switch to asure the fuel to the engine cut off.

Funny, my engine won’t run. Yours won’t stop!On average, our two cars are running great!Paul Mossberg

August 31, 2012 at 1:22 pm #251533I work from home on Fridays so I stepped into the garage over lunch to take a slower, closer look at things. And sure enough, (DOH!) I had a hot wire running to the coil fuse. Stupid mistake but got it fixed.
Started and shut if off several times and everything is working fine.
Thanks for the sanity check.
