I’m working up a list of unfinished items and making plans to resolve them and I believe I need to add a vent to the pre-’68 Beetle gas tank. The neck was shortened per MiGi instructions, but I see no vent hose connection. Is it as simple (?) as soldering in a nipple for a piece of gas line and then routing it down out of the chassis? Seems pretty simple other than the soldering part. Any advice or other solutions from folks who have been there, done that?

    John,

That’s the set up on my Intermeccanica. The fitting for the vent line is just under the gas cap. Loop it after the fitting, then run the hose down and out.

For what it’s worth, VW based Duchess have a fuel tank on the right front floor plan (Classic Roadsters Ltd. did not use VW tanks). The tank was not vented. the car was in an enclosed garage. I never had any fuel smell in the garage.

Thanks Paul! I appreciate the confirmation. Interesting about the non-vented tanks. You’d think without a vent, you’d have fuel delivery issues to the carb. I think that since this tank has been sitting empty for 40 years, this might be the time to pull it out and get this soldering job knocked out.
