Since I can no longer maintain and update the entire site like I used too, should I just make the Forums the Home page when people come to Tdrepkica.com?
February 8, 2014 at 2:16 pm #259588Is it too cost prohibitive or has the site software changed to the point that its unmaintainable? Whichever is easiest for you is my vote.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 8, 2014 at 2:39 pm #259589That works for me Frank. But first….
What would be involved in maintaining the home page? Might someone take over the maintenance?
And what would we be “losing”, just the home page? Or all the content links in the left side bar?

February 8, 2014 at 4:20 pm #259590Its not at all a cost saving unless you hire someone to do the pages. It’s really about time. I just don’t have the time or desire like I did 10 years go when I started this.
Paul, we could make topics with links to any of the pages you feel should be kept. Heck, you can just make a link to the “old” site and post it on the forums. I would not delete any of the pages if the group feels the are of use and need saving.
If some one familiar with making and maintains HTML pages has the time and software, and you trust them FULL access to the core that is this site, someone else can take over the duties.
I was just thinking that the Forums provide the best interactive experience for users and outdated unkept HTML pages my lead visitor to think this group isn’t active anymore.
February 8, 2014 at 4:57 pm #259591I believe that Frankie’s last sentence is spot on. It is very important that a newbie see a page that is current and actively being used.
If we could easily link to or just include the old home page info/content as a new topic in the forum, not much would be lostI, unfortunately, know nothing about HTML.If there is a cost involved in maintaining the website, approximately how much would it be? Any guess? Were it not for tdreplica.com, I probably wouldn’t own one.February 8, 2014 at 6:44 pm #259592usually go straight to forum so saves me a key stroke. And if there is a $ assessment that gets us over a hump I’m sure it can be found.
February 8, 2014 at 6:57 pm #259593Frankie. I think the most used tabs on the left would be the Forum for certain, Download Manuals and probably Tech Articles for VWs. If we kept those that would be great. Oh and the photo gallery where we post our pictures.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 8, 2014 at 7:00 pm #259594My opinion:
Change home page to forum page.
Delete current home page. From the sidebar links:
- Modify “Home” link to target the Forum page
- Retain “Membership” link and landing page, delete all text after “Because we do not ask for….”
- Delete the “Photo Gallery” and the landing page. The few cars shown there are almost all non-active members
- Delete the “Classifieds” link and landing page
- Modify the “Our store” link to read “Club Grill Badges” and modify the landing page to include only the badge picture and ordering info
- Delete the “Forum” link. Forum is now “Home Page”
- Retain “Download Manuals” link and landing page
- Retain “Tech Articles for VWs” link and landing pages
- Delete the “Guest Book” link and landing page
- Delete the “Links” and landing page
- Delete the “help us by donating” text and Donate link under the left sidebar.
We would be left with:
- “Home” link to target the Forum page
- “Membership” link and modified landing page
- “Club Grill Badges” link to simplified the landing page
- “Download Manuals” link and landing page
- “Tech Articles for VWs” link and landing pages
Frank, does this sound reasonable? And is it doable before you lock the web site down?
