January 31, 2015 at 6:29 pm #262758Wow, Edward. The cars all look good (except maybe for the one missing a door), but what I’m REALLY impressed with is the garage. Is that at your house?

1600 cc Type 1 engineJanuary 31, 2015 at 6:48 pm #262759it’s across the road from my house. I sold some land to auto zone, some years ago, and, that was part of the results.
I have all the parts to the one missing the door, except for a top. that one has a built up engine, and, the cam sounds good in it.
January 31, 2015 at 6:59 pm #262760Can you say “garage envy”?
Great to see all the toys at home where they belong!

January 31, 2015 at 7:13 pm #262761yea, it’s been an adventure.
now, for the total of funds spent. 2 cars, 2 1/2 years of buying and selling cars and parts, starting with $1000.
end result, $14,000 spent on 2 cars, and, my out of pocket investment is………………….
the same $1000, but, I still have some mgb parts to sell, along with this;
http://eastnc.craigslist.org/for/4871955829.html
so, i’ll be back even, in no time.
February 1, 2015 at 8:27 pm #262762I really do like your shop.
🙂February 1, 2015 at 8:51 pm #262763spent this afternoon working on the mgb. finished up mounting the headers, y pipe, and replacing the heater core.
next it’s finishing up the radiator hoses, wiring the stock fans back in, and, replacing the front pads and rotors.
then, it’s to the inside, to reassemble the console assembly.

February 3, 2015 at 6:40 am #262765thanks,
it’s currently going through a revamping. I closed down, and, sold off a small engine shop that I used it for, so, now, it’s mine, and, my wife’s toy box.
she has her part to do the things she needs to do for her consignment selling, we have a spot for our antiques, an area that is going to be turned into a wood shop, my area for cars, and, storage upstairs.
we added to the south end to park our airstream under, and, it’s already to small. it’s only 4 years old.
got a deal too, total package is around 60,000 right now.
February 3, 2015 at 8:15 am #262766Gotta love MG wanna B’s comment on his garage: “…it’s already too small.”
Anyone care to comment? 👿A friend of mine once told me, “You’ll always have one car more than you have garage bays.” Seems many of us keep trying to prove that theory.Paul Mossberg

February 3, 2015 at 5:59 pm #262767I’ve even got a box truck box with a mgb parts car, and some parts in it.
there’s never enough space, and without making the deal with auto zone, none of these things would be here.
I don’t even shop for parts there.
February 3, 2015 at 10:06 pm #262768You win the garage square-foot sweepstakes. I thought mine was big at 1000 sf.
Love to hear about the 2-post lift. Cost; install cost, issues, headroom. I’m only 9 feet to the ceiling but, man, those things are looking so, so useful.February 4, 2015 at 6:34 am #262769you bet they are.
I got mine in a trade for a big a/c unit. the guy that sold and built my building, was looking for one for his, I had made a trade on some small engine work with another guy, and, hadn’t even removed the a/c from where it was.
I traded him the a/c, and, he remove it, for the lift, and, installing it. I figure I have about $100 in it.
my shop is 16′ at the eave, so height is no problem. you can get a new one from here;
http://www.completehydraulic.com/lifts-2-post-cl09000bp.html
that was what I was going to do, when the trade fell into my hands. you can find them on craigslist sometimes, too.
my shop is 2400 on the bottom floor, and 1600 on the top, with a 15 x 40 lean to on the south end.
February 4, 2015 at 9:06 am #262770Wow! That’s a awesome garage. 2400 sq ft must make it about 40×60. My plans for one was only 24×36 (no second floor) and I thought that was over what I needed. May have to reconsider, I have a 3 car attached to the house and a 16×20 shed (tractor and yard stuff), and both are full. I’m wanting/needing at least room for wood shop and car shop area w/ lift. All I need is to win the lottery.
February 4, 2015 at 10:49 am #262771Would love to have a lift someday.
This topic deserves it’s own thread!
But I’m betting that the typical home garage floor concrete is not strong enough for a two post lift.
BendPak and Eagle Equipment says the concrete must be a minimum strength of 3000 psi.
BendPak says a four post lift needs concrete with a minimum strength of 2500 psi. The specs (including concrete thickness) for all BendPak lifts is here. (Scroll down about two-thirds of the way)Also…buy a lift that is ALI certified. The latest American National Standard spec is ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2006 “Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing, and Validation”This one is kinda self serving for BendPak, but it is a good list of things to consider: http://www.bendpak.com/blog/top-10-guide-to-car-lifts/PMOSSBERG2015-02-04 10:50:25

February 4, 2015 at 5:49 pm #262772yep, it’s 40 x 60, and, poured the floor 6″, with fiber reinforcement, in the 20′ section where the lift is.
my lift is an older one, with larger feet.
we shot for 5000 psi, there, and 3000 psi for the rest.
February 4, 2015 at 6:20 pm #262773The guy who built mine was sketchy with a lot of stuff, but his concrete and tile work have proved out. I’d probably test it but expect it’d pass. I also envision triangulated outriggers off the posts, because I’m paranoid like that. None of it will probably happen ever though on my salary.
February 4, 2015 at 6:42 pm #262774I’ve had a tractor trailer truck in mine, before I got the lift, haven’t had any problems.
February 4, 2015 at 7:04 pm #262775Minimum 4″ floor …recommended is 6″
