There is a MGTD replica on Craigs List .The ad indicates it was made by Replicar Corp and uses GM components. I had not heard of this company befor but the car looks very authentic.Anyone else heard of this company? It must be rare or perhaps I am not as smart as I thought I was.Any info about either the car or my ”wisdom” will be appreciated.
August 23, 2009 at 6:19 pm #239577I have never heard of Replicar Corp.
But then I’ve only been around the hobby since freakin’ 1982!Watsa matter Larry, two TDs not enough for you?

August 23, 2009 at 8:30 pm #239578Paul, Two TD’s are definently enough for me,but this car was too good not to share with the forum .It is super nice.Hope someone who will appreciate it can make it their pride and joy.
August 23, 2009 at 9:23 pm #239579It must be this one

I am very impressed with it. Beautiful, very MG looking. Never heard of the company either.
August 23, 2009 at 10:17 pm #239580That looks GOOD I really like the gas tank and the tag holder I have never seen a kit car with that attention to correct detail , I don’t know the builder, but it lookes like a lot of real bits and pices..
August 23, 2009 at 11:40 pm #239581Nice looking car.
I agree Dan. It does look like they used a lot of original style bits and pieces. Swap the taillights for original style and convert it to a single exhaust and it would be very difficult to tell from an original. Except of course that it would be running down the street under its own power. 🙂

August 24, 2009 at 8:18 am #239582Hi Everyone, The pictures are a little fuzzy but I think the tail lights are from a 53 MG .Don’t for sure when they went to the round lights but some of the last TDs as well as the TFs were equiped with them. If this is correct this company is the only replica to use them except for Allison. Look in Larry’s photo gallery to see a beautiful example of an Allison MGTD.
August 24, 2009 at 9:00 am #239583Hi Larry,
Thanks. You are correct. I didn’t know they switched to round lights in ’53.

August 24, 2009 at 10:39 am #239584Better pics of this automobile on ebay

August 24, 2009 at 1:51 pm #239585James, Thanks for the better pictures. I think this same car was on Ebay last month in wisconson. The interior and other features make me think so anyway. Looks like somone did some improvements, grille slats, wheel spinners, etc and has bumped up the price as well. The previous ad did not mention a brand and showed fewer views and I thought it was a BCW but could not be sure. The front fenders on the other Larry’s Allison extend closer to the bumper than BCW. Both are quality cars.
August 24, 2009 at 4:23 pm #239586All,
Curiosity got the best of me, so I just sent the Seller a question re: Replicar Corp. I can find NO reference to them on the internet. Maybe they only made one car?

August 24, 2009 at 6:04 pm #239587I was looking at the ebay sellers ratings and noticed he has been purchasing automobile parts including authentic MG items, the spinners were a recent purchase he made. His score is perfect on the feedback. He may be purchasing cars, fixing them up for resale. He has done a great job with this one. I noticed the hood is two parts, it shows in the photo with the hood up. If I needed another car I would be tempted by this one, it’s not too far from me. Besides I need to get a red MGTD to keep with the trend .
I cannot find anything on the Replicar Corp. I tried to view the plate under the hood, but can’t make it out. Hope Rich has some luck with his questions. Outstanding auto , very handsome.
August 24, 2009 at 6:42 pm #239588I too had noticed the two piece hood which looks like it is bolted together and hinged on the left side. I also see that the headlight brackets have no visible bolts where they attach to the grille. If it were not for the round taillights which have matching round molds on the rear fenders, I would think that this is a BCW with a bolted together hood and TD gas tank along with a TD spare tire rack.I think these items would easily fit the BCW. Also I think I see a small flat gas tank in the side view of the car. That may be why the tail pipes are several inches below the bumper.I seem to remember Mark saying that the BCW was produced from 1980 to 1985 when the owner of the company died. Perhaps this car is a proto type [ad says 1980] or may have been produced after the BCW co went out of business.
August 24, 2009 at 9:18 pm #239589with all the details the wipers are wrong !! there on the cowell not on the top of the windshield. but i still love it.
August 24, 2009 at 9:32 pm #239590There is a response by the seller that I think must be to Rich’s question stating that the plate on the car does indeed say Replicacar Corp.Looks like we have got a rare one here. Perhaps we can talk James into taking the 150 mile trip up to Sikeston,MO. to check it out or better still buy it .How bout it James?
August 24, 2009 at 10:39 pm #239591I’ll get it, but gotta pass around the hat .
Then my wife will pass the frying pan
That car sure is a beauty. Dan is right about those wipers. I assume the folding windshield joint is above the wipers resting position.
August 25, 2009 at 7:13 am #239592All,
Yeah, the guy did respond to my question, but just said that the I.D. plate says Replicar Corp. Still have no clue as to who they were.
It actually reminds me a lot of my car, in that it’s RED, it has an MG emblem and …. Ok, that’s about it.
James, c’mon buddy, take one for the team! We need an EYEWitness report on this rare bird!

August 25, 2009 at 1:06 pm #239593It may be a very early BCW car…or prototype before they went into full scale production. However, don’t be fooled by the hardware as most of that stuff can be bolted on to most any replica. I suspect what Jas said is true, the guy is buying and flipping TD Replica’s.
The wheels are CRAGAR Tru-spokes with the Chevette bolt pattern.
Replicar Corp may be an assembler like York Sports Cars in Ashland, VA. An assembler may have built the car and did the title for the original owner and installed the ID Tag.
The fact that it’s titled as a 1952 MG TD makes it very easy to register in my state as a Historic (25+ years old) with no inspection and the plates/registration are a one time fee.
The description says the 4 speed trans has problems…Larry, you have a spare!
August 25, 2009 at 1:17 pm #239594Mark, I think you’re exactly right about the assembler – Replicar Corp. One of the purchases the ebay seller recently made was for the CRAGAR spinners. I am trying to talk my wife into letting me run over to see the car and gather more info and pics. She is afraid I will lose my grip on the checkbook and cave in (she has a point ). She would rather WE run over to Hot Springs and I give Ringo a hand while she goes to the spas . Works for me too.
August 25, 2009 at 2:34 pm #239595James,
She does have a point about the temptation, but a red TD Replica would look really nice sitting next to that white one! And as Larry Murphy will I’m sure attest, Two TDs are WAY more fun than one!
As Yogi Berra once said “The only thing I can’t resist is temptation” (I don’t know if it was really Yogi, but it sounds like something he’d say)

August 25, 2009 at 10:16 pm #239596I tried to tempt her with his and hers MGTD’s, but that
didn’t work. It does sound like Yogi.
I keep checking on ebay. The buy it now feature has gone
away, just bidding now.I’ll be interested to see the final result.

August 25, 2009 at 10:37 pm #239597James, If I didn’t know better I’d think that my wife and your wife had got together. They just don’t see things like we do but that may be God’s way of keeping us from doing something foolish. I to am watching the bidding and am curious as to how it will turn out.All this is making me proud of my BCW and very appreciative of the deal that Mark gave me.
August 30, 2009 at 9:52 am #239598Larry,
Did you see the final bid? The last one I saw was $4600. I don’t think he made his reserve.
James
August 30, 2009 at 11:34 am #239599The closed auction says “The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.”

August 30, 2009 at 2:35 pm #239600When I pull it up now it states that the bidding is ended for this item. I don’t see the item is no longer for sale that Paul refers to. I am not up to speed on how Ebay works so I may not be seeing everything that everone else sees. It shows 0 bids now and buy it now price at $6500.I seem to remember it being at $4650. Perhaps the seller got tired of the bidding process and decided he must have $6500 or he will keep it.According to my figuring ,he ended it 2 days early with bids still coming in.Do you have to ”join” Ebay to get all available info?
