Took Ally and Mrs Wobby out for a ride today. Hitched Ally behind motorhome on one of those VW stiff hitches, Pulled her about 50 miles she pulled great. I have a couple trailers, but with the size of Ally could almost put 2 on or in. Not interested in pulling more than I have to. but to the crux of this post. I went by a yard sale and found a couple Sole H40 44eis not great shape, but certainly rebuildable and usable. If anyone is interested I’ll bring them to Carlisle. I hate selling stuff so if your interested take a look we’ll trade something or thier yours. Didn’t really need them but had to take them, could see leaving with nothing. See you in Carlisle.
May 10, 2010 at 6:53 am #241304Look forward to seeing you there, Richard.
May 10, 2010 at 8:42 am #241305Richard – I might be interested in the carbs myself and might have some stuff to trade etc. – what do you need? Did they have all the stuff w/ them like riser tubes and linkage etc.?
Looking forward to meeting you and Ed in a couple of weeks.

May 11, 2010 at 6:46 pm #241308Richard,
What do the dual carbs say on the side? Looks like a small set.
I do have a newly rebuilt 31pict carb ( looks like new ) w/ a spacer that
allows it to be used on a dual port or remove for a single port.

Hope to drop off the carbs at my engine guy tonight – I will find out his
timeline and let you know when he should finish the rebuilds.

May 26, 2010 at 8:33 pm #241313Richard,
Dropped of Monday night – Wayne said to check w/ him on Saturday and see
what is up. He has to order rebuild kits for the carbs and do the work, so
could be a few days. The set w/o the filters was missing the part where you
you hook up the throttle – do you have those laying around somewhere or
are they just missing?
I may be going to the Bugout this weekend and will look for those parts if
you don’t have.
Let me know,
Dale
June 1, 2010 at 10:50 am #241314Richard,
Tried to reach Wayne over the weekend – no luck – must have been busy w/ family – I will call tonight.
Did not get to the Bugout – did you get a chance to see if any parts were laying around?
I will give you a call when I hear from Wayne.
Later,
Dale
June 1, 2010 at 11:34 am #241315Could be just missing do what has to be done
June 1, 2010 at 6:43 pm #24131610-4 Richard
I reached Wayne – 1 set is cleaned up and waiting for the rebuild kits he
ordered ( should be here by the end of the week ) and the other set will be
cleaned this week and will get rebuilt as soon as the kits arrive.
Wayne said he should be able to find the missing pieces from a friend who
has old carbs laying around. He also said that both should be fine to rebuild
as many times they are to worn out to rebuild – good deal
Let you know when they are done
June 12, 2010 at 4:56 pm #241317Richard,
Got a hold of Wayne today and he is finished w/ the better set – I will need to
glass bead the intake manifolds etc. Sunday, but they should be done after
that is completed. I will give you a call after that on details to get them to
you.

June 20, 2010 at 9:18 am #241318I think I found a redline hex linkage for 100.00 is this what you would use or should I wait a follow your lead.
June 20, 2010 at 5:22 pm #241319Richard,
Looks like everything is done – I just finished cleaning up the filter covers
and painting all the intakes etc. – I asked Wayne to order a couple of gaskets
so you can mount to your engine or you can get a couple yourself.
You might need to order some small upright filters in order for everything to
fit under your engine hatch ( did you see mine? )I used the the linkage found
on the JC Whitney website under the VW section and it worked great for me
– about 70.00 and most times you can get free shipping or 10% off. I may
have a extra linkage ( old Kadron type – need to check )
I will give you a call to find out where to send – or are you coming down 95
anytime soon?

June 20, 2010 at 6:00 pm #241320No, I won’t be that way, Campaign is heating up, Call or email and we’ll figure it out. So I’m in Swanton Vt this afternoon Campaigning and I end up wondering thru an old barn. Here is what I found,
4 aircooled Beetle engines.
2 of them are complete running, 65hp dual port engines.
1 is a complete 1600, 65 hp dual port engine that was never started
These engines have been stored inside a barn,
This gentleman also has engine parts.
Possibly 6 sets of the dual port heads, Clutch, starters, generators, alternators, Brake parts.Someone help is this stuff I need, should I make an offer, We’re almost over the beating on the hidden VW. These are all parts easier to hide
June 21, 2010 at 12:31 pm #241321Sounds like quite a cache, Richard. I sure wouldn’t mind having a spare engine and transmission, and an extra 15 horses would probably benefit Bridget–assuming they’re in there.
Then again, old parts that been settin’ would probably do with rebuilding anyway–if only to check inside for corrosion, scoring, water, etc. I’d imagine everything in that barn would be perfect for someone with lots of time on their hands and a love of grease and oil. I have only the latter, not the former.
Not clear to me that you have either of these. Plus you already have a good running machine, 1600 cc’s worth of dual port fury, and a nice set of carbs on the way, right?
The Speedster project maybe could use something like this . . . but that’s assuming you’re doing a build.
Did the guy say why he rebuilt a 1600 and never started it?
July 9, 2010 at 6:11 pm #241322Richard,
Tried to call you today ( sorry it took so long – work is killing me ) and your
message said you were not taking messages … so let me know the best time
and way to reach you and I will get your carbs back in your hands.
Dale
