It was 74 degrees and sunny yesterday afternoon so I took the BCW for a 75 mile run to a town only 25 miles away. Took all the two lane country roads I could find even if I didn’t know where they went. It was nice to see the trees and flowers blooming and the grass turning green. All the head turning and thumbs up just added to the fun. Got back home and my wife woke up from her nap so we took off again for another 20 miles. So glad that winter is almost over!!
March 14, 2011 at 11:56 am #243881Great News! You got out in the open air. Thanks for sharing your joy.
Now that Daylight Savings Time is upon us, it won’t be long before we see a 70 degree day here in NJ. It was almost 60 on Saturday. There are still a few stubborn piles of snow left in parking lots though. Hard to believe it was from the 26-27 December 2010 blizzard.
The people in the Northeast part of NJ are all flooded out. It’s very sad. Whole towns are under water.
BTW…I thought you knew every road in Rockingham County!
March 14, 2011 at 12:49 pm #243882My wife and I took ours to be in a St Patricks day parade in Louisville last Sat. Would you believe that the local British Sports Car Club welcomed us as members? It was the first (aprox 100 miles) longish ride that we have taken in it. It is supposed to be in the mid 70s by the end of the week.
March 14, 2011 at 1:35 pm #243883You guys are making me very jealous. Right now the suns out and its snowing here in Mass. Luckily its not accumulating. Still a lot of snow along the edges of the road, but its slowly melting. Probably be another month before I can take mine out. Can’t wait.
March 14, 2011 at 1:54 pm #243884I took the pedals out of mine yesterday. Almost done with the fire extinguisher mount. Ordered new carpet. Made one new door panel backer; realized I don’t have enough vinyl to do the whole interior.
Plan to start on the dash next Saturday.
March 14, 2011 at 2:14 pm #243885Well, this topic sure “sounds” like Spring Pink MG40616.5933449074
March 14, 2011 at 6:34 pm #243886I went out Sat afternoon, 75 degrees and blue bird skies. I had a grin for the rest of the weekend Since I don’t have any major projects/jobs to do on the Duchess, I’ve been able to get out at least one day each month this winter. Sure has made winter more tolerable here.
March 14, 2011 at 8:55 pm #243887My ride Saturday got cut short, (didn’t make it out of the driveway) fuel line was leaking???? Not sure what happend over the winter, it was a new line last spring. Oh well replaced it Sunday and did a check on, I hope, everything else. Suppose to be nice this week end and I’m on vacation next week, hope to get some ride time in. Going to try to redesign the seat bottoms too, been putting that off all winter.
March 15, 2011 at 9:33 am #243888Montie,
I should be able to send you pictures tonight
March 18, 2011 at 6:42 pm #243889I grew up in minnesota where winter is 6 months long! I traded that for earthquakes and sunami’s! On these beautiful spring dats it all seems worth it. i have had more furn with my migi than any other car i’ve ever owned (over 100). I sold my MGB after it just sat in my garage for a year. I don’t even own a top for MiGi, just the tonneau.
Have fun guys!
chuck
March 19, 2011 at 11:01 am #243890Took my car out last weekend on Sat too- what a day!
Got the new tail lights and mirrors on. Will try to put a pic on later.
Tuesday, it gets new tires. I hate to wait – today is gorgeous here.
But, since 1992 is the date on the wheels….
Will suffer in the Z3 instead 😉
-P.S. I’m originally from NJ, but Spoiled in NC!
March 19, 2011 at 10:20 pm #243891Beautiful here in Baltimore for the last couple days. Dried clothes on the line today, cooked hotdogs on the grill.
Spent most of the afternoon in the garage, messing with Bridget’s interior bits. Got some new carpet, new instruments. Started my new dashboard project. Installed the center cluster, though not wired up yet.
Looks fairly TD-ish, I think.
March 19, 2011 at 10:43 pm #243892Wow Ed,, That dash is looking great!! It’s the first one I’ve seen using the MG center . Looks really ”British” . The more appropriate size speedo and tach are a very nice touch.
March 20, 2011 at 10:25 am #243893That dash looks amazing!
March 20, 2011 at 12:13 pm #243894Looks good Ed – you going to do a glove compartment as well?
March 20, 2011 at 3:16 pm #243895Thanks.
Just fitting the instruments now & chasing down electrical gremlins. But yes. The plan is to make a new dash–I have the wood for it–including a glove box. Hope to be done in a few months. Probably not by Carlisle, but maybe, if I get a some lucky breaks.
Mean time I hope to get the car back driveable in the coming weeks using the old (existing) switches. Maybe hook up the new horn button, but leave the lights & key where they are.
Later on hope to make the Lucas key switch operable, with that rubber nub as a starter button. Which will bring me to the next horrific nightmare:
I also want to change out the steering column. I have one from a ’65 (I think) Bug but not sure what kind of frightful mess I’ll be getting into with that.
Schu–yours is the old school column, isn’t it? Did you by chance swap that in? Any pointers will be much appreciated.
March 20, 2011 at 3:33 pm #243896Ed, dash looks great!! Let me know when you want to do mine.. I was lucky to get the stereo in. I thought that was a big job, a complete dash, Not sure I’m up for that.
March 20, 2011 at 6:50 pm #243897Is that dash OAK it looks GREAT Dan
March 20, 2011 at 8:31 pm #243898Thanks, Dan. It’s the walnut piece that came with the kit in 1980, I think. Delaminating a bit in the left corner but otherwise still pretty nice.
