If you remove one of the headlamp bracket bolts, does the fender drop into position?

Judging from that photo, the only long term fix would be to split the fender where it goes from the horizontal along the body to the vertical sweep over the tires and pull it down to where you want it and reglass it. Not quite sure it would be worth all that trouble.
By the way, what is that on top of your grill shell?

In my initial build I allowed the tire rub to dictate the contour of the fender. It would rub a while until the fender was no longer a smooth continuous arc, then I would place tape that would create a smooth arc and file away anything below the tape. After a while the fenders no longer rubbed.

Can you post a photo? Or a link to a photo.
How does it look? Is it symmetrical when looked at straight on?

A wet weekend. The top was up on Ed’s car when we hooked up outside Baltimore. We all arrived in Port Royal at almost the same time. Ed and I had just parked when Shu arrived, topless. After breakfast we took off and before too long we stopped and Shu put his top on. I was dry and comfortable driving the Forester. No difficulties heading into VA B…[Read more]

Yes, check with a spring shop for new ones. Every coil you remove increases the spring rate apx. 10%.

Being my car is torn apart I will post photos of my grille shell. My shell is from an original TD and has been, along with the fenders, modified to fit.
I also have original TD headlamp brackets, hence the large holes at the end of the bar.
If you were to cut that bar and install a turnbuckle in the middle, you could, in essence, adjust…[Read more]

Paul, I’ll be taking the Forester, so if you can make it to my place by 5:45 AM, I will be happy to be your chauffeur.

Congratulations on your project.
The fiberglass liner I believe is the inboard mounting for the headlamp brackets. Not quite sure, as I destroyed mine in an accident in ’08. I now have a steel bar stretching from side to side to mount mine. The liner may fit poorly but you won’t see it after grille slats are installed.

That one is a far cry from just an engine swap.

That route is a pretty good run. Ed, I’ll meet you at the gas station. 8:00 again?

Trimmed some fiberglass off the corner of the left side box. Had the engine in and out a dozen times today. Apparently the V8 is spaced more narrow than the 4 in its mounts. Took the frame mounts off and put an extra set of holes in them. Attached the transmission and put it back in to check the mounting holes and I do believe with a bit more work…[Read more]
