Is it just the mating surfaces or has it appeared in moving parts…rocker shafts, beatings, etc.?

Black silicone used where it shouldn’t have been and has been sucked through the engine.

That plastic doohickey is the separator plate. It looks metal in the pic. Change it out as the plastic unit will eventually crack. Take it off and take it to your local Dealer and tell them you want one in steel.

The radiator fit is great. It appears to be easily capable of cooling the scooby motor. Your engine looks to already be equipped with the metal separator plate. That’s good. Carry on.

When you decide to pull the heads, make sure you have an automotive machine shop resurface them. That’s probably the reason for the failures you’re reading about. A simple step overlooked. When you’re into the front cover, reseal the oil pump. Be sure to use the Grey Permatex in that location. I’ve seen the black stuff used and then the pump…[Read more]

My listings for head bolts indicate “replacement required”. They are sold separately from the gasket set. Your “book”…what are you using? Check online for a Subaru service manual. I found one for my 2012 Impreza, over 4,000 pages, and downloaded it for $10.00. Does that last 1/4 turn require a degree wheel or you just guesstimate?

If you unbolt the convertor, you should be able to slide the trans back and just drop the engine. You said this is a 1995. You haven’t mentioned it but I’m assuming this is only a 4×2 model. As of 1996 everything was 4×4. I researched the drive ratios a while back. The base Scooby’s run a 3:73 final drive, while the GT’s run a 4:11. The only…[Read more]

Paul, I have a file of photos of your flight, but I don’t seem to have your e-mail. PM me and I’ll try to send the file.
A great weekend. My charging ports failed on the way home, then close to home, I noticed I had no turn signals. Boy, just like a real TD.

Ed, at about 140k it WILL require head gaskets. On the back of the block is a plastic separator plate that becomes brittle and cracks. Newer models have a metal plate. Replace it when you have her out.
