Well, that’s the first time I’ve been referred to as “substantial”.

Dick: Bill is a substantial person. I’d say his car without his fat ass in it will scale at about 2170,* wet & appointed. His is a Ford 2.3 which weighs about 30 pounds less than a Chevette 1.6, according to this guy. That means that, everything being equal (which it almost certainly isn’t**) your Chevette-based car should finish up in the…[Read more]

Greg, Yours is Ford/Chevy/VW based? I always thought the VW based would be at least 200-300lbs less – anyone know?

Some of those managers like to play with toys. Some are even real mechanics. Could be a good find.

Heat in Bridget is ducted through the center tunnel. The build book says send out through the outer channels though. There apparently are several ways to do it.

Thanks Paul – even though it has low rider wheels! I did use tall tires to try and not make that look and it worked a bit – I am good w/ the rear tracks – just wish I could bring in the front wheel track a bit w/o so much work. I do like the hot rod look though – after all these are not real – make them how you want

OK, the first one is Schubert’s car, right down to the wheels. But Cletus owns it instead of Dale, so it looks like it does. Schu says the ride with coil overs and the track and handling with the wheels is much better than stock, and I have no reason to doubt him. The wheels are a plus. The price is too high and since it’s multiples of what’s…[Read more]

Dan R: that kind of ignorance is what I’m hoping to encounter. I can picture a C-Type Jag in the back of a shed, surrounded by lawnmowers, maybe an old outboard. Rakes, shovels, old latex paint cans. Ripped tarp. The hood is half gone–cut to fit the tunnel ram on the 396 the guy put in it back in 1964. Straight axle; Dana 60 with slicks on…[Read more]

Guys,Mine looked worse then that when I dragged it home for 600.00 a few years ago and many hours later. It can be done, but do you want to put yourself through the pain. My Speedster project was not much better either – they all can be restored.

Quite a mess. Chop shop guys might want it once they realize how many hidden nooks and crannies are created by the kit body meeting the pan. Could be a good drug mule car. Then again, probably not.

Could the shifter be from a VW Bus?

I believe the “longest travelled” last year was a Speedster from Canada that arrived at Carlisle via the Florida Keys.

Good looking Lafer for the price. That shifter looks mega-tall though. WTF?

Get with some of the Speedster Owners Group out there. They cruise alla time and many are pretty Catholic about what goes in the group. “Cars and Coffee” a big thing, I hear. Some also come this way for Carlisle.
