If I were in your shoes I’d check out the 2.3 forums like this one: https://www.ranger-forums.com/2-3l-2-5l-i4-tech-31/
They can help you troubleshoot at least as well as we can.
An engine swap seems like a radical step for someone to be contemplating not knowing basics like “what could fit?”
It’s a kit car: Anything can be made to fit. You…[Read more]

Hi Bill. I ran a 2.3 in my Fiberfab for over 20 years before I killed it. I now run a 302 V8. Theres a lot of fabrication involved to make that swap. The 2.8 V6 has been used also.
What is the issue with the 2.3? No crank? Crank, no start? Make sure the timing marks are correctly aligned and the distributor is positioned correctly. I was once…[Read more]

You could run it with a 34PICT3 on a stock manifold but you’d probably do better to tune the Delorto, unless it’s icing up.
What Dell do you have? What idle jets are in it?
What is your current overall mileage? I get about 25-26mpg overall with my 120-hp 1914 in a 1500 lb Spyder replica. Your engine should be giving you something similar—but o…[Read more]

Today, this was amongst my e-mails. I can’t believe it’s been two years since we lost Roy. If you’ve got a photo, please add it.

edward ericson replied to the topic Shift Rod Bushing in the forum VW Based Kits 2 months ago
On mine I had to pull the shift rod out through the front of the tunnel.
If the trouble is only the cable tubes for the brakes and such, the way forward is to use a pry bar to bend them away from the cup.

Welcome to the group, Barbara! Dale Schumacher refurbished one of these many years ago and he’s nearby. His friend Rick did one about four years ago and he’s also in NoVA. Many of us meet at the Carlisle Import and Performance Nationals in May, about 2 hours north of you. You could meet other TDr owners there and learn about the ins and outs.
No…[Read more]

It really depends on a Motorcycle trip I’m doing with my brother, nephew and son from southern VA up through PA on the Mid-Atlantic BDR ( check it out for you M/C adventure types ). My nephew is coming in from Down Under so it depends on his timing. I will know more towards the Spring. I hope it works out for both.

My Fiberfab is not VW based…BUT…late last century when I began to assemble the body I could get nothing to line up. Finally, in frustration, I contacted the factory in Florida. (That’s how long ago it was. The factory was still in existence.) The man I spoke to said that they don’t follow the manual. They begin the body assembly from the rear.…[Read more]

I plan on being there although I’ll probably tow up and place the car in the Race Car pavilion.
With any luck I’ll be able to tow it home.

This is a great addition. I watched all the videos of the Ford TD chassis build and was reminded of all the steps I skipped and all the modifications I’ve made over the years.
The links for these should be added to the Library.

edward ericson replied to the topic Abarth Exhaust? in the forum General Discussion 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Not sure what an Abarth style is in this context. If it’s the 4-tip GT style probably not.
We’re free to use any exhaust of course. There’s an EMPI single tip setup that puts the tailpipe in the exact right place for an MG TD. Works fine and relatively quiet. It’s not ideal for horsepower though so if you’re running a hi-po engine consider other…[Read more]
