That would be great on a pan-off refit. Better yet to have a stick of some kind with a remote trigger to feed the can all the way to the shift coupler area, start it spraying and slowly drag it through to the front port of the tunnel.

Interesting problem. I’d never heard of rear brakes making so much racket. Something, for sure, ain’t right.
One thing to check is the inside edge of the shoes, to see if they are rubbing on the backing plate. If they are, a little Never-Seize or brake anti-squeal paste should get it. Keep it off the working faces of the shoes and drums. If you…[Read more]

Correct.

Any garage with a wheel balancer can tell you the width of the wheel without dismounting the tire. There is a gauge used so you can set up the machine for correct balancing. Takes two seconds.

Check the blog, Schubie. The wire wheels push out about an inch.

Why?
Always thought you tires tucked under fine. Going with some wider wheels/tires?
I would have to add a bunch to get mine under – maybe a future project – want to push the passenger foot well area forward first.
Also the speedster project, the rolling kitchen remodel, the yard re-do, basement remodel – it never ends…
Looking forward to…[Read more]

Tow to Jack’s place and than nudge him to drive to Florida from there.

Yeah, thought of that. Getting the fenders off is a bit of a project in itself, and adding the material at the right angle (innermost bit) would have complicated the tail light bezel more than I felt comfortable doing.
The symmetry is imperfect already. I intend to improve on what’s there now. The idea is to slice them both in the same spot and…[Read more]

I’m on the Happy Jack bandwagon. After that drive out to Pittsburgh a couple of years ago I’ve decided I’m towing anything over an hour.

Super cool. Quite a long run from MD to FL in a TDr but…maybe.

Believe it or not you have 3 TD members just south of you in the Stafford area – Rick – building his car now (just spent an hour with him last weekend checking out his cool rides and garage), Dean – just south of me with a running and driving example and myself with a car I restored about 12 years ago. Looks like we have a club…[Read more]-

At this point it’ll be after Thanksgiving. Help setting the carb., oil pressure indicator, along with a couple of other gauges would be handy.
Thanks again, Lee

Sounds like you are getting on top of it and looking forward to meeting.
Dale-
I didn’t find my “neighbors” with TDs on the map. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, just figured out how to reply…
Wow, thank you. I am retired leaving me available most of the time. How would you suggest we set up a meeting?BTW, I still have not been able to repair the oil pressure indicator so am reluctant to drive my TD.
Thanks again, Lee

Sure – love to meet. We need to pick a semi-warm weekend and try and get everyone together.
My email is dlschu42@gmail.com.
Might be easier to communicate.

Hey Dale, I’m in, Maybe on a Sunday at my house? The garage is heated, and mine is not on the road.

Congrats to you, Greg. I looked at C4 Corvettes before buying Bridget. Cool cars that don’t get enough love, imho.

edward ericson replied to the topic Cooling question in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 5 months ago
You want some air flow through there but don’t need all that much; the BCW has a couple little slits. Do make sure any “openings around the engine” are not around the tin that forms the “floor” of the engine bay. That barrier is what keeps the engine cool during summer traffic jams. If it’s not there—and a lot of kits are missing it—make it your…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Moving the brake backwards? in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 5 months ago
Most things we do to these cars to make them look more TD-like makes them work less well; most mods to make them work better compromise the looks. The e-brake shuffle on the VW-pan cars is that rare modification that helps both looks and function.
