  • I was once young. If you want to get old someday, don’t skimp and buy an El cheapo floor jack. Plan on spending at least $100. You want one with a nice big saddle. ..and look for one that is at least 2-1/2 tons. Also, look for one that has a large lifting range (difference between fully down and fully up). Look at the Jacks at your local…[Read more]

  • Time will tell.

  • Anybody know if I can bring my sidekick (a goldendoodle) Grover to the show?

  • My 2 cents: Why do you own either?  Do you consider either an investment? Is the cost of spares a consideration? …or did you buy to enjoy the open air motoring experience?  ….or perhaps you like to tweak and tinker with old cars?  ….or maybe all your friends own real T-types?  There is little doubt that the BMW is a better (in every regard…[Read more]

Not stock.  Notice that all the fenders are somewhat rounded where they would have attached to the missing center sections.  And the outside door handles are missing.  The straps securing the gas tank have been modified also.  The owner took some 1950’s customizing liberties that you don’t usually see on a real TD.  I’d guess that most folks, if…[Read more]

  • The easiest way is to find a hot wire that goes to the left two blinkers and also a wire that goes to the right two.  Then, attach one wire to one pole of a spst (simple on/off switch) and the other wire to the other terminal of the switch.  Now when you have the new switch off, nothing is changed.  When you turn your new (hazard/emergency) swit…[Read more]

  • Paul, I figure the DDGG is about 65-70 years old now.  Your speed?

  • Really looks great!

  • You’re a good man, Ed. Figure out some method of TDr triage, and then have some fun comparing and discovering.  It was at one of these meetings that my “Roy’s Lock” was introduced to the suicide door community.  At the next meeting, all who had been to the prior meeting had installed them.  (This was way before Al had invented the internet.)

  • Ed, when I had my TF-1500 I attended occasional “tech sessions” in Virginia Beach with other T series owners.  As I recall it was every other month and was at another owners house that had a lift in his garage.  This guy also had more T-type spares than the biggest Foreign Parts Store in town.  Lotsa fun and lotsa discoveries were made that mad…[Read more]

  • I agree Ed, “My” method will not tell a 10cc difference.  (One would have to be careful measuring, since a 10cc difference in engine displacement would really only show a 2-1/2cc difference on the water level in the bucket.) But it will/may give an idea of what jugs are installed.  As I recall, you thought that your old SP engine was a 13…[Read more]

  • Schu, Shhhhh! Your memory is TOO good.

  • Mis-quoted (of course):  “Neighbors?  I don’t need no stinking neighbors.”…and Kall, I have for many years used an old 1/2 gal lawnmower fuel tank with a built in shut-off valve to test an engine suspected of having sat for a while.  Works great.  First drain the carb float bow. Disconnect the line from the fuel pump to the carburetor and plug…[Read more]

  • Anay, If you want to save yourself from building up your abs and biceps, buy a new tank.  They are not too expensive, but be careful to order the right one and you might have to have the fill neck cut and re-welded on.  Or, use Schu’s shaken but not stirred technique.  Put a piece of chain in the tank and shake away.  If you are fortunate eno…[Read more]

  • Sounds like you are new to the joys of auto machine work (aka shade-tree mechanic tinkering).  My very best advice is to never do 2 things in a row to your engine without starting and running the car in between.  You will find that if you stick to this rule, it is very simple to pinpoint what is wrong.  ex, do not tweak the timing and adjust the…[Read more]

  • Ryan, Welcome to the community of TDr owners.  I have owned about two dozen sports cars and must say that this site is the best source for help I have ever encountered.  However, you really should buy a copy of Muir’s VW for the Compleat Idiot.  (nothing personal – we all have it.)  And Rob and Dave’s VW Resource site online is also very good (and…[Read more]

I have to agree with Bill. The best looking seat conversion I have seen.

  • Bill, if there was such a thing as a 3 point slam dunk, you just scored one on Jack.

I think you are referring to posts from late November 2013 titled Forever Sharp Steering Wheels. Go to search > advanced search > steering wheels > Royal > Any Date > enter. Should work. I expect you forgot to change to any date?
