davearoy replied to the topic Engine Tin Fit in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 10 months ago
I hear your frustration about fitting engine tins. When I restored Herbie, a year ago, I had to make several mods to the new tins I used. I even went a couple of steps further, to help to try to avoid extra ABOVE tins heat, especially here in Central Florida. I wrapped my non heater box exhaust tubes with high temp exhaust rap, and I made a hand…[Read more]

Don’t forget to change out the Transmission fluid as well. I added a “Ford Starter Old Style Relay” to help start a hot VW engine. It also helps to improve starting, due to some possible deterioration/corrosion of older starting circuit wiring. Be sure to take lots of before and after restoration pictures, as we like to have you share with us…[Read more]

Thanks Paul for your help. Actually I do not know how you have had the time to make this recent post, concerning iPad pictures. You certainly have had a very busy graduation celebration weekend, for sure. I know you are very proud of your daughter, I know I was when mine graduated. On the square……..Dave

Good rational advice Royal, it sounds like you speak from well learned experiences. I also think prayer helps as well. Davedavearoy2016-05-15 12:32:31

JEGS.com has several guages at excellent pricing. They also have the appropriate sending units as well. This is mainly a Muscle Car web site, but has guages as well, less expensive then other VW online web sites.Dave

Greetings again Rick! In my humble opinion I would keep the TDr. Why, well depending on the condition of the orginal TD wooden “structural Integerity” and “mechanical reliably” I would opt for keeping the TDr. My thoughts are, yes it is an orginal, but parts for originals can be very expensive to obtain, and you have to pay for shipping costs to…[Read more]

How well has your your TDr has been accepted in the various NJ British Car Shows? The MG Car Cub of the Tampa Bay, Fl area, has put me in the “Special Interest Class Section” of the British Car Shows here. I can participate in all events, but I can not be considered able to be judged for Show Awards. The so called “Purist MG People” still snub…[Read more]

Very nice TDr, but I must say “asking and selling price” will probably be about a $6000 difference………….. Just Saying. I do wish Andy the best of luck getting his asking price. There is an Orginal TD in the Tampa, Fl area, by owner for $14,000, in great condition, with many new Moss parts.Dave

This is exactly what I did for my horn on my Duchess. I found that having a horn button on the dash, helped to avoid the horn wire from wrapping around the steering column, as the Steering Wheel was turned, or chaffing in the column and causing a shortDave

What kind of of TDr do you have? There are several wiring diagrams in the assembly manuals, in the menu of our web site. What I did for my Classic Roadster Duchess wiring, was To color each wire in the wiring harness, with a corespond ing colored felt tip crayloa fine tip felt pen. I then could see a “minds eye” where each wire went, from…[Read more]

I emailed the guy and he wants 45K for it. Probably means ($4,500). NC has a 7 % sales tax, but he said if he got cash, he would fudge on the sales price for title xter. It has passed all recent NC State MV Inspections. I thought it might be a nice 2nd car, when I visit my daughter in Cary, NC, form where I live in FL. The new top, side curtains…[Read more]

Hey John, you may want to do a google search for “Robs and Dave’s VW Repair”. They are a good web resource on all things VW. A lot of my VW Samba friends use their online advice for questions, and problems. I only use a local VW Dune Buggy shop here in Florida, as they rebuilt my engine for $1600, (just a long block rebuild) It sounds like after…[Read more]

I am in the process of replacing my interior, on my 1985 self built Classic Roadsters Dutchess. I have already completed the Convertible Top, using Marine Grade Tan Vinyl. Interesting enough, I got the plastic for the rear window, from Walmart Fabric Dept. it is a very heavy guage clear plastic. For the interior vinyl, I am using the same color…[Read more]
