No need to cut your multimeter lines. Get some alligator clips and make a pair of jumpers long enough to reach from the furthest part of the car to the fuse box.

The car came with a pair of stamped, galvanized headlight brackets that I really did not like. I disliked the look, the flimsiness, the angles were all wrong, and also disliked the way they attached to the wings. These were made from 1/2 inch cold water pipe and 1/8X1 flat stock. Glad I did it because the angles on each needed to be matched to…[Read more]

Update on my progress.Made most of the spare tire bracket. Can’t finish it until I have the actual wheels that I will use.
Made headlight brackets. If they look different from each other, it’s because the right one is 1/2 inch longer, nothing is even, just like the rest of the car.
Lastly, here is my instrument panel. Made on a waterjet by a…[Read more]

Make sure that the frame is not twisted by laying it flat on a good and very flat surface. Try mounting it like they do boat windshields: Don’t use the rubber mounting strip. Place the windshield in the frame, loosely located with some pieces of the rubber strip or foam. I would use two per top, two per side, etc. 1/2 inch each. Or build up…[Read more]

Gabor Kesseru replied to the topic Louvers anyone? in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 11 years, 11 months ago
I was just told that the louvers on my hood sides are backwards. They are recessed inward instead of being raised. Makes sense, just like the top of an airplane wing lowers air pressure, the louvers need to protrude to suck the hot air out. Here’s an…[Read more]

Gabor Kesseru replied to the topic Bending Aluminum in the forum General Discussion 11 years, 11 months ago
I’ve always read that you anneal aluminum by first turning the Oxygen off on your torch and then coat the metal with black soot. Then turn the oxygen back on and with a well spread blue flame, burn off the carbon. When the carbon is gone, so is the hardening of the metal. It rehardens when it gets hammered. this process can be done more than once.…[Read more]

Monday: Drove out of the garage under it’s own power. Of course it has no body panels on at all.Wednesday: Drove down to the Stop sign and back. 1/4 mile each way. Some loose nuts and bolts.Friday: Mounted windshield. Adjusted toe-in and tightened spindle nuts. Drove down the back road (1/2 mile). Steering felt just like a tight little car.

I have seen this hard starting problem be because of a timing problem. Recommend you check it just to get rid of that possibility.

Here is the building of the steering column.First shot is the lower shaft and the home-made steering column. Notice the column is composed of one tube inside of another to make it collapsible.
Next shots shows individual parts, hardware store flange bearing, hardware store 3/4″ collar, and both inner shafts with a 3/4 shaft welded in to the tube…[Read more]

The seat bottoms came from the front buckets of my 76 Mustang II donor car. I also used the foam rubber from the seat back of the back seat.

I made the steering column. The lower part was from the Mustang II. I used the inner column and welded in a 3/4 shaft (from a ridermower axle) in the hollow section and the lower U-joint. The D shaft fits directly in the upper U joint from Ebay. The steering column itself was made from the inner shaft from a Chevy pickup. I then used lawnmower…[Read more]

Being a woodworker, you probably already know that no wood darkens faster inĀ the sun than cherry. Expect a deep brown red eventually. Sometimes it’s visible within hours. Walnut is the opposite, lightening over time.

I measured the slot and it took a 13/64 drill bit (.203) and depth was .617. Fabric thickness at the fold is .062 and seam is .800 back. Playing engineer with this, it seems 1/8 thick by 3/8 or 1/2 inch wide should fit. I’ll do a wooden dummy first to check fit.
