September 12, 2013 at 2:41 pm #245222September 9, 2013 at 6:00 pm #257620You know I was studying the photograph and I noticed that it looked as if there is one yellow and one white fog light and then it HIT me!!
I think I am going to paint the rims on one side green and the silver/grey on the other!! Because I am torn and then I can judge for myself and see what others reaction would be.
Hmmmmm
August 30, 2013 at 7:09 am #257536yeah, I noticed on the link Paul posted that they list is as Silver-Gray. And my paint shop already has the paint code.
I’m going to get the caps on the way today and shoot the wheels over the weekend.
August 29, 2013 at 8:00 pm #257534I think I will repaint silver and get the half moon’s from MG Magic to start.
I think that with the chrome beauty rings it may be too much shine to draw your attention away form the chrome on the car body its self.
August 29, 2013 at 7:35 pm #257530I could not find the first so I posted again.
But you know there can be quite a delay after I click the Post Reply button that I may have messed something up.
August 28, 2013 at 7:41 am #257001I ended up inquiring to the local AutoZone if there were any aircooled guys around and they gave me the name and phone number of a guy who had one laying around in the weeds. Who gladly parted with it for $50 and he threw in an oil change gasket/washer kit!!!
August 23, 2013 at 8:32 pm #257425Thanks Paul!
August 23, 2013 at 8:44 am #257222gkesseru!!
That is EXACTLY what I would have had to do. You know exactly what my problems were! Those are the top 3 of my negatives of the Fiber Fab that I sat in. I was also interested in the FiberFab that had been listed in the classified section and was expecting to make those mods.
I see the ad is gone. Anyone know where or who it went to? I hope the registry is maintained!
August 23, 2013 at 7:54 am #257423Paul,
Page 5 of Part 4 says “(note: See steering wheel assembly instruction in the steering wheel box)
I don’t see those instructions available for download on the site. Do the instruction include a packing list or item description to give specifications on the shoulder bolts? I only have one and took it in to get two more form a “bolt” supply house and they could not even tell me what I had in my hand. You know how some kit say packing list
1-wheel
1-horn plate
3-1/4″ x 1.00 shoulder bolts (what Fastenal thinks)August 22, 2013 at 3:02 pm #257420Thanks Kent!!
I was a little disappointed when I came across low hp VW applications that you gave me the heads up. But then I stopped in the auto parts store and a had a sand rail guy offer to swap me out for a 009. Parts guy gave me a look so I passed, after he left I was surprised to find out they also used it in the 1964 Porsche 356c! 😮
Same parts guy was trying to help me last night and had been trying to help me out by talking to this sand rail guy. Sand rail guy got all excited when he heard some kit car guy didn’t know what he had.
😆

0 231 129 019Says the tag on the distributor. Parts store could not use that number to sell me a cap and rotor.

August 22, 2013 at 8:45 am #257426Well, Alright!!! Join the crowd. I am pretty much in the same Newb situation but feel that there is a great support group here.
WELCOME!
August 22, 2013 at 7:54 am #257362Here is a shot just before we drove it home with my wife and I doing only a once over with Presta by hand.
And in case you missed the pre-buy photo in this thread.
August 18, 2013 at 8:25 am #257356528 miles later and I’ve got it home. Yes, I said 485 miles since picking it up last Tuesday.
So, here is the story.
Picked it up Tuesday and paid $2,500. Got insurance from American Collectors for $298 agreed value $5,000. Mileage on vehicle 6,300 total. Looks like factory built (how would I know for sure?)
Went to local Auto parts store and the manager happen to be an aircool guy! Who gave me the name of another guy who is a VW junkie! But who also happened to have a tow bar laying in the weeds and a Oil change gasket kit for a total of $50. AND my wife fell in love with the red Laser he had in the back yard!
Stopped in at a body shop supply company who said don’t waste your time with Macguire’s and sold me a bottle of Presta gel coat compound ($18.97)and with a little elbow grease my wife had the car “presentable” enough to not want to hide it. Can’t wait to get a wheel in my hand, that car will look new. He said that he doesn’t even carry the Macquire’s gel compound any more and only sells this stuff. He went into great detail on why it works so good. I could explain it but I did end up going back the next day and getting a second bottle because I was so impressed.
Put short miles on hit the rest of my trip for testing, because the tow bar was for worst case situation. You see we already had a trailer on the back of the truck. But we had a plan in case of break down. (Never Happened)trip of 300 miles took me six and a half hours with top up but curtains off. I will down load the camera and post the shot looking down the hood at the Mackinaw Bridge.
Got it home know the work begins!
By the way, moto-meter is an eagle. Anyone have a good pic of what the Duchesses is supposed to look like?
August 14, 2013 at 6:51 am #257347Ok, how do I seperate the top from the top edge of the windscreen to be able to fold down the top? Looks like some sort of wedge/bar.
August 5, 2013 at 8:36 pm #257215Has anyone ever put an automatic in their TD?
August 5, 2013 at 8:34 pm #257214By the way. Sailor has a NICE Fiber Fab and it is for sale. But when I told him how much some of the ones are list for on this site and what some on Funnybug sold for I think he was near shock. We were discussing it again in front of his wife, I think she thought I was lying. She questioned if I was serious that there were TD’s listed for $3k and kits for $3k because she knew that 25 years ago the kits were selling for $5,600 she never dreamed that you could by a kit or a drivable car for $3,000.
Also, I really liked the looks of the Fiber Fab Ford TD looks from the rear!! Really looks tough (short and squaty) with that wider look.
August 5, 2013 at 8:22 pm #257249Greg Press,
I think I saw what you are talking about. Wasn’t that same guy redoing a old bus for lodging accommodations too?
August 5, 2013 at 8:18 pm #257213Well, I spent two hours out a Sailor’s tonight checking out his Fiber Fab with 2.3 Pinto donor. I admit it TD’s are not for me!! Tonight was the first time that I ever sat in one. Remember, I am looking for this car for my wife and daughter.
1) How much more leg room does VW verses Ford offer? Yeah, I couldn’t push the clutch in. I am 6’2″ and not thin but not fat. And with the top up I had some real issues.
August 4, 2013 at 8:06 pm #257209you know, I have never seen a Fiber Fab in real life and I don’t feel like driving eight and a half hours to be disappointed. So I was looking through the registry and noticed that “Sailor” is listed as living in a town about a half hour away from me. But I noticed that he has not been active on this site for quite some time. I called information and got a number, so I called and left a message and by the end of the night I had been invited to “come’on out!” and check it out!!! And I found out that we also share a passion of sailing.
Every day I am amazed at TD Replica owners!!

August 4, 2013 at 7:45 pm #238568Really!!! I didn’t know that!
So, I wonder why my insurance agent was calling another agent than the company themselves.
I will look around, I would rather cut out the middle man. Tends to be cheaper doing that.
Thanks!
August 3, 2013 at 11:46 am #238566I hear ya Pmossberg. I live in an area that has a lot of retirees with lots of toys.
When I called my local independant agent they only quoted Haggerty. For a lot of the reasons you stated.
I just wonder if I can do any better going straight to Haggerty?
August 3, 2013 at 11:22 am #257204To clarify I have a lead on another Duchess, not that I have one now.
Although my wife feels we need a his and hers. We have a 4 yr old and the car will only fit 2. I am not about to argue that thinking:-)
Although I am thinking 1966 corvette ragtop for me!
August 3, 2013 at 11:08 am #257203That is my delima!
For example, in the classifieds there is an unbuilt Duchess and 95% Fiber Fab. Same price. Kit, I can do it my way, but how do I know what is the right way? Most all of you have done modifications or tweaks or changed after the build.
I also have a drivable Duchess that needs the finish brought back and replace top, same price.
What to do? maybe one fiber fab and one duchess?
