Not to be “Mr. Negative”, but the chassis number and engine number are good starting points but not always 100% reliable. In any 40+ year old car, parts can get swapped around. My car has a “universal” engine block instead of the usual Type 1, indicating some sort if engine replacement. Try to inspect catalog and internet photos to confirm that…[Read more]

In the hope of stimulating (and perhaps complicating) your design process, it seems to me that a really great aftermarket hardtop for a roadster without rollup windows should deal with the window problem. Otherwise, you will still have to hassle with side curtains. That’s why I was thinking about some kind integrated foldup, liftup, swingup doors…[Read more]

Thanks Steve, for researching the fit issue. It looks like it is 3″ too wide and 14″ too long for my FiberFab. I suppose that it could be a starting point but $600 plus shipping would be an expensive guinea pig.I was inspired by the various Jeep aftermarket hardtops with lift out roof panels and easy on doors. Sadly, there are just not enough o…[Read more]

Re: My previous post about fender mirrors- upon further review I have noticed that not all of the fender mirrors I see in pictures of TDrs are equal. Some have a longer stem (no giggling please) which means that the mirror is higher and in my case might actually be visible from the driver’s position. I don’t know if different kit makers used…[Read more]

Good thinking.I’ve found that a good way to test any knowledge base or search engine is to ask a question to which you already know the correct answer. 😀

Respectfully disagreeing with an expert, imho, the fender mirrors can only work if the driver is not vertically challenged. In my case I can’t see more than the top half of the mirror on either side no matter how I adjust it. But I’m not willing to raise my seat height because of limited roof clearance when the top is up.I have installed…[Read more]

Since we are talking about fuel system cleaning, I saw a great tip on a website about evaluating tanks and motors which have been sitting a long time – divide and conquer. They built a temp fuel tank out of a 1 gallon can which can be hung near the engine compartment to fuel the carb directly. That way motor testing can proceed without the…[Read more]

I think that is more a case of percieved liability. So many product and service providers are rightly scared that they might be sued if something they serviced fails and causes injury. For a small shop a huge settlement could mean closing. The best defense they can offer is that they followed all their industry’s rules and manufacturer’s…[Read more]
