IMO, they don’t prevent you snapping the side curtains on, but they do make it a bit more difficult. It’s a tradeoff…

Part II of the CMC build manual on the downloads page contains a diagram with descriptions of the colors. That might be a starting point to check. Wouldn’t be surprised for the supplied harness to be the same or at least very similar.KentT2015-02-19 16:16:21

Appears to be a Daytona Migi, not a FiberFab.Looks like it should clean up pretty well. How’s the interior?

Doh! My bad! Totally forgot that you have the aftermarket rear suspension also. 😡 Sounds like the trailing arms are not aligned the same, side-to-side. Your options are likely shimming the carrier or heating/twisting the trailing arm in question.

Have you downloaded the FiberFab build manual from the Downloads page? I think it has a wiring diagram in it?KentT2015-02-17 20:41:50

Is there any slop in the bearings? Can you wiggle the wheel by grabbing the tire top and bottom. The rear carrier/wheel bearings are not frequent failure items, and often last hundreds of thousands of miles. The rear axles have likely been decambered one (or more) teeth on the splines of the rear torsion bars, in order to lower the rear ride height…[Read more]

My thoughts exactly, Ed. Biggest hassle I see is trimming the glovebox cutout and door. This avoids all that…Yep, Roy needs to display his teapot, and the woven wood picnic basket complete with crumpets and scones…

Aha – auxiliary electrical plug-in! Thanks! This dialogue has been valuable, as I continue cogitating on my new dash layout. Looking at all the dashboard pics online, now I’m thinking of a hybrid TC/TD layout, with the large matching VW clock centered in front of the passenger, yet with tach and speedo in front of the driver.

Forego the horn button and blinker switch and look what you can do:
Question: What are the two little holes in center of the row of switches that look like RCA jacks or something.

Long story! That one was my first choice almost two years ago, when I was shopping, and I was the guy who prompted him/them to get it off the rack where it had been for years. He got it down to fix a build error that was unacceptable to me. It is a custom boxed tube frame with VW front and rear frame horns on it, using stock vw suspension, not coil…[Read more]

Thanks, Allen, on both counts! Since I’m using an aftermarket steeing wheel, I don’t think that clock would work for me!John, I’ll send you a PM.

John, if Allen doesn’t want that panel, I’ll certainly take it! Some real potential there – worst case would be to use as a template!

Could someone trace the outside lines of the original center gauge panel for me? Not concerned about gauge or switch placement, only the curves and corners of the center panel itself. Thanks!Trying to find your pic, Allen. Any idea of which show folder to look in? You’ve got a lot of pics! 😉 KentT2015-02-13 10:26:34

I would add a relay for the fog lights also…What universal harness are you using? I haven’t started cleaning up my wiring yet, a fresh start may be the easiest way to do it…
-
KentT replied to the topic High Beam Relay or Not in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 12 months ago
Using ’69 column-mounted dimmer switch, and no separate relays. Adding a relay would give brighter lights for either circuit. You would need a separate relay for each circuit, low beam and high beam. The relays function like starter solenoids, in that they simply switch the high-amperage current. You can use smaller gauge wire and lower amperage…[Read more]

Haven’t tried the cleaners specifically for fiberglass boats, but I’m pretty pleased with how Meguir’s Ultimate Polishing Compound will remove heavy oxidation from gel coat. Then, you’ll need to follow up quickly with wax. Carnuba is likely the best, but I use NuFinish because it is easy on and easy off…KentT2015-02-05 19:49:21
