Has ANYONE successfully modified original MG TD cowl brackets to work on a TDr?Based on the shape of the casting where it meets the cowl, it appears that some serious modification to the TDr’s fiberglass cowl would be required….

I would certainly try repairing/replacing the shifter linkage before I yanked the engine and transmission… You could likely get a rebuilt tranny as cheap as you could pay the labor (and learning curve) for someone local to repair it, unless they specialize in VW trannies…Then, you could specify the gear ratios (each gear, plus R&P) that you…[Read more]

Doesn’t appear to be a FF kit,
based on:1. The location of the fuel tank in the pics (for filling through the radiator cap), 2. Nor does it have the raised flange around the engine on the rear splashpan,Not sure what it is, but I don’t think it’s a Fiberfab…

As much as I’d love to have a lift, it would be hard for me to justify the expense if it was limited to just the TDr… As it is, a concrete floor and ability to heat it is a major step up from what I’ve been dealing with since I moved here a couple years ago.

Sadly, Roy, I couldn’t stretch the budget that far. It will have 10’4″ finished ceiling height – but at least has oversized 9’x9′ garage doors. Looked at insulated “cathedral” ceiling, to give me more height, but it still would’ve placed the lift in the very center, which obviously doesn’t work… Higher sidewalls and flat ceiling also blew t…[Read more]

Long time, no update. Not a lot has been done recently on the TDr, since I’ve been distracted, preparing to build a new home for it… (Combine that with the fact that I’ve added another revival project — a 1995 Winnebago Rialta with VW running gear.)Trying to find an affordable way to get it built, pricing “pole barns” and alternate c…[Read more]

Not difficult at all — once you remove any sheet metal and/or body panels so you can get to it… you may also need to remove the exhaust/muffler, based upon what type you have.
If you use a pulley puller, be careful not to damage the threads on the end of the crank where that large bolt screws in to hold it on.I’ve successfully removed them with… -
