Both Bug and Ghia convertibles have an additional metal channel-type reinforcement that bolts under the perimeter of the floorpan, underneath the doors.

Yes. Ford Pinto and Mustang II 2000 and 2300cc engines were commonly used for kits. Parts for the Ford engines are MUCH easier to find than the Chevy.

Never used the cassette tapes, but I’ve swapped my share of 10″ and 5-1/4″ floppies. Also remember paying almost a grand for my first 10 my hard drive.

KentT replied to the topic What is this Gauge? in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 3 months ago
That is fairly normal oil pressure for an air-cooled VW, once it has warmed up. They run lower pressures than some other cars. The oil pressure relief valves are set to bypass the oil cooler at somewhere between 42-45 psi, dumping oil back into the crankcase. This is done to prevent blowing oil seals or rupturing the cooler with cold, thick oil…[Read more]

I do, but I can’t really help you. I didn’t wire it, and mine appears to use the whole ’69 donor harness… At least for now. Will totally rewire it when I upgrade the dash.KentT2016-05-13 18:30:03

Thanks, Roy.Crap! After recommending him, I check his Facebook posts and see he’s not accepting new projects! Sorry!Any way, here’s the matching speedo and clock that I had him rebuild for me. They’re not white, nor look like a real TD, but they do look vintage and age appropriate. Now if this new dash project ever makes it to the top of the list…

Should you decide to go the route of modifying gauges, I can recommend this guy. Reasonable rates, and he’ll work with you on “customizing” to meet your specific desires.https://www.facebook.com/NorthGeorgiaSpeedometerI had him modify three gauges for me, in preparation for installing a new dash:1. Clean and place a 914 Porsche tachometer in an…[Read more]

Let’s combine Roy and Allen’s methods… Tear it down, measure everything, then rebuild it with this..VW Rebuild KitSeriously, I think Roy’s method would differentiate between a 1776 and a 1600. Not sure if it’s precise enough to get within 100cc though. 1500 or 1600? 1776 or 1835? 1835 or 1915? Etc. You’d definitely have to measure a known one…[Read more]

My bet is on warped pushrods. Valves won’t open the way they should, so it would run rough and not produce much power…

KentT replied to the topic Tow trouble in the forum My Project 9 years, 4 months ago
Even without ignition, the engine should have built up oil pressure. So, I’d think the damage is likely from “over-revving). The stock VW valve train is not designed to withstand high RPMs, so that’s where I’d start looking. Pop the valve covers off, and manually spin the engine over. You may have warped the push rods – IMO, the most likely…[Read more]
