  • Hey John, thanks for the insight into the difficulties of making changes to the seat. I can only hope there’s a way that won’t be that bad, if not I will be prepared for trouble ahead of time.

greg, I like the inverter idea anyhow. The radio in my dash is a basic AM/FM/Cassette and won’t power on– let me rephrase that– it either doesn’t have a…

  • From what I’ve seen of my heat hoses they’re partially crushed where they go under the seat, yet still adequate heat flow when on.

My seat back has a 4 or 5 notch adjustable recline bars attached at the top but only the last 2 are usable. I was thinking the seat back needs to be mounted higher for it to have more possible angles.
    Don’t know if your…

  • I could use an audible turn signal too, mine doesn’t always cancel after a turn. Seems like it has a 50-50 chance of it continuing or going off, so I’ve found myself driving along a few minutes before seeing the little green indicator light blinking. Should be easier to see with the top up instead of open.

One of many things I’m finding this…

  • I realize this question was over a month ago, already answered sufficiently, but my steering column (possibly from a 1974 Rabbit/Golf or aftermarket) turn signal/dimmer lever is used for horn not dimmer. I have a floor switch instead. No idea why it was done that way, was the previous owner’s build not mine.

    I haven’t looked for any relays, and…

Thanks for the summed up info Roy. Yes, I’ve seen and bookmarked that VW web site. One of the first sources for VW stuff I was finding when I knew I needed guidance sooner than later! Obviously popular. Likewise thesamba.com

    😀
I need to wait on valve cover gaskets before I check true TDC for #1. Going to give it another go based on what you were…

Can’t say much yet about the Weber because I still think the engine isn’t tuned right, except in regards to black smoke I’ve not seen any but been wondering if it runs rich. I haven’t dared to make changes to the mixture screw until I know the engine timing is good as can be.

Enough power going up hills without excessive downshifting if I keep the…

Might as well show the VW engine, said to be a replacement 1600 (lacks a number below Gen pedestal), Dual Port with Weber Progressive carb.

And looks like it does not have the doghouse oil cooler I’ve heard about behind (or is that in front) of the fan shroud. Must be the older style less efficient oil cooler.
Found the 009 distributor might be 90…

    Joined this forum just now.

Great to see that car being put through some rigorous driving, so thanks for posting those links.

Just got my “new” quarter century old replica this month and it needs a good going-over underneath the body. All bushings cracked, some slop in the steering, wheel rims bent. At least it’s rust-free and everything else denies…
