I think the MGA style would look good. Mcmaster Carr gives dimensions on an 1157 bulb as 1″ diameter and 2″ overall length.Based on that number and this photo at MG Magic:http://www.mgmagicclassicmotorparts.com/taillight-assembly-complete-replacement-each/you should be able to get a rough idea on overall size.On my CMC/ FF fender it appears t…[Read more]

Ed I think they are close, but this is what I find listed for MGAhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/MGA-SPRITE-TR3-JAGUAR-MORGAN-REAR-TAIL-LIGHT-NEW-/200889330400?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec5efeae0&vxp=mtrThe lucky style use the same lens as some Triumph Spitfire and GT6. Profile angle is
Similar , but the base seems to have…[Read more]

Paul,I just looked at page 41 in the CMC VW download manual section and they show how/ what CMC did. Why did I not think to look at such a valuable resource. The sockets have flanges that bolt to the fender, then the base which has no center section mounts over the socket and bolts to the fender. I dont think CMC modified/ cut out base center of…[Read more]

Triumph Lens/Lucky ReplacementReflective tape on black rubber lens gasketBase with two bulbs. If look close at the sockets you can see a strap that ties into the base sides. The fender is relieved for the sockets. I don’t think this is a modified Triumph base, CMC/FF may have has these made for their cars.

My bases look exactly like what you show except they have two bulbs
which I assume are factory Lucky bases as they show no signs of being
modified. The sockets go straight into the base not slanted or horizontal . MG Magic shows the original Lucky lense in the attached link (looks like the Triumph style), but not the Lucky base. Mine have a base,…[Read more] -

Paul, the original Lucky lenses and the Triumph are both plastic. The lucky set up uses two bulbs, an 1156 and an 1157. So far there has been no heat problem and I don’t think there will be as the watts go from 26.8 on the 1157 to 28.1 on the 2357, amps2.1 to 2.2 for a gain of 8 candlepower or 25% improvement over original bulb. I noticed almost…[Read more]

Nice work Roy. I had a chuckle when you listed tools used. It was almost a complete machine shop. I always say there is nothing a good man can’t fix with enough tools.

When I installed the headlight relays in my car I replaced the 6014s with H6024s.After the relay install I compared brightness between the two by only installing one of each and the H6024s were much better.I think just the relay install will make a lot of improvement in most cars. The stock 6014 is 60/50 watts high/low beam. The H6024 ha… -

My mistake Paul. I thought it was the 4 outlet EMPI like I had. The Empi muffler does have a pretty good angle to it. Guess I was just lucky I had the clearance. It also seems that the VW CMC/Fiberfabshave a larger engine cover and rear splash panel than some of the other kits. It gives more engine room, but at the same time lets them look a…[Read more]

Paul, mine fit on the CMC/Fiberfab like it was sent with the original kit. I didnt even have to bend the pipes to tweak them in like I did on the 4 outlet GT style that I had put on my car a few years back. Didn’t you have the EMPI 4 outlet GT on your car? If so the single outlet is identical in exhaust configuration and the single outlet is on…[Read more]

Allen, mine was taken with no cap on. I think you will need to shorten more. Maybe someone else with a CMC/Fiberfab can measure to verify.

Schu,im not trying to hijack this thread, but I have the Harbor Freight Mig 151 that is a 220volt welder that will use gas or flux core and it does a decent job with either lincoln or hobart flux core wire. If you are using the Harbor freight wire that came with your welder, toss it and try a name brand wire. I also have a lincoln AC220 amp welder…[Read more]

Allen,I agree the cmc manual is not much help. It says “as short as possible”. I went out this A.M. and measured mine. With no cap on from top of tank to top of filler neck was 1″. When I needed a new gas cap gasket I ordered a new cap. I swear it was almost 3 times as thick as the OEM cap. It hit the underside of the hood. I had to just get the…[Read more]

Allen,
I have the CMC/fiberfab vw kit. It has the pre 68 tank with the shortened filler like you are doing. I am not sure how much they cut away, but when I tried to put a new gas cap on it the hood hit. I had to rob the gasket out of the new cap and put in the old. If they would have cut another 3/8 – 1/2″ off it wouldnt have hurt. Pretty close… -

and pains aside, I have a great family and a good life. Very happy that you got
