Didn’t they do a covered bridge tour a couple of years ago at Carlisle? I think that’d be cool.

Almost correct Paul. But not in-lieu of rather in addition to. But I’ve tabled that thought for the time being. Knowing me, I could get to engrossed in paying attention to the rearview camera on the screen and not pay attention to my driving.

Question for all the VW based TDr folks. Which brake master cylinder do you use and how is yours wired? I have a dual brake master cylinder and have both brake switches installed but am only using one brake switch. I see no real need for using the other brake switch other than plugging the master cylinder. I don’t have the warning light and don’t…[Read more]

Scubasteve. I use your method for all vehicles except my Silverado. I use all, over the shoulder, mirrors but trust the rear view camera for what’s just behind the truck bed where I can’t see.

Thanks guys. I’ll have to map out the route for the ones in NE Georgia. Not as many of them as are in PA.

Bill, Paul, Ed. Along the lines of shows and rides, is there any type of organized “covered bridge” tour or rides up in your neck o the woods? I think that’d be a fun thing to go to.

Has anyone thought of adding a rear view camera in their TDr? I would think the back-up camera would work fine. Just connect it to a power wire rather than to the back-up light wire. I already have a 1 DIN and 2 DIN radio with 7 inch screen. Just a thought.

Bob. My tail light assemblies are VW assemblies (I believe) and have two separate sockets. The top socket has one wire and is for the turn signal. The bottom socket has one bulb with two filaments (tail and brake) with two wires of the same color and thickness. Neither socket has a ground wire and I have to add the grounds to both sockets. Just w…[Read more]

I checked the tail/brake light sockets. Both wires going to the socket are the same diameter wire. I’ll have to get her all wired up and when I turn on the lights I’ll be able to see which connection is which. Cold and wind chill here in middle GA (yes it does get to below 32F down here) so I’ll have to wait until the temps get up a little higher.…[Read more]

A quick tail light electrical question. In the tail light assembly, I know the top bulb is the turn signal and the bottom is the tail light and brake light. My question is does it matter which wire gets the tail light power or the brake light power? Thanks.

Thanks Kall. I’ve been tying wiring with wax string for 40 some years. Labor intensive but for some unknown reason I actally enjoy it! Perhaps its therapeutic?

For those who are talented enough to write a blog, etc., I read an interesting article in Moss Motoring’s Magazine. It was the last article in the magazine and it was, as far as I think, the neatest way to write about the life of a Bugeye Sprite. Most bloggers and chroniclers of their rebuilds, myself included, basically detail the work they do…[Read more]

Well I have Moneypenny’s dash and instruments cluster all wired. Just have to finish testing and tying the wires with wax string. If all goes well, tomorrow I’ll install the dash. I’ll take plenty of photos…chassis grounds and behind the dash wiring.

On all the VWs I have ever worked on there has always been a stud on the driver’s side rear axle fork except on my TDRs VW chassis (1971.) So I got the hanger bolts to attach the grounds and the wire from the transaxle to the ground stud. While checking the pan one last time, I noticed on the passenger side, where the battery goes, not only was…[Read more]

Toller. I have to run buy Home Depot and Lowes later today so I’ll check in their hardware department. Ace Hardware is just down the street from them so I’ll check there as well. Wonder if a boat parts supply place would also carry them. Had a friend suggest fasten all but I don’t need a hundred of the hangar bolts. One large and three small will…[Read more]

Looking for a few specialty bolts/screws. The best way I can describe it is a self-tapping screw on one end and regular threads on the other end. My TDr (VW based) is missing the grounding stud that grounds the engine/transaxle to the rear fork. Same as a non-VW based car where the battery ground cable connects to the chassis somewhere. I have a…[Read more]
