Good advice from Kent! The Pertronix SVDA gives you the best of both worlds.

My Duchess is st up the same way John. Big hole under the spare tire.
The guy that did the final build on my 1776 is a VW Micro Bus fan and has decades of experience with VWs. He said I have nothing to worry about. So I don’t. 😉

Sounds to me like the infamous “009 flat spot”
Read the article on Rob and Dave’s air cooled page.
And here is a thread on the Samba.

Oh yeah, one other thing…
I don’t have a temp gauge installed. But I have shot at the head and oil pan with an infrared temp gauge and have been with teh norms.
Ok, two other things…
Perhaps this is stating the obvious, but oil temperature and head temperature are two different things. If you have a temperature gauge on your dash, make sure…[Read more]

I’m not advocating this, as I know it flies in the face of all accepted VW cooling principals.
I have a 1776 in my TDr. The cylinder tin (upper and lower), and the rear tin (the sort of separates the top end from the muffler) are installed. No other tin is installed. And the engine compartment is not sealed. I’ve not seen any problems in traffic…[Read more]

I’m in! Arriving Friday.
As of 8:55 on August 4, there are 15 Rock Star registrations. four of them are us!
Now the bad news… I’m driving the Intermeccanica, not my Duchess.

I don’t disagree with Kent. (Don’t you love that? It probably means my next sentence is where I’m gonna disagree! 😈 )
But if you put it under the seat, your best approach is to use the standard VW battery mount.
That’s how my Duchess is set up. And as I noted above, there is plenty of room between the battery and the inner side panels…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Battery Cable Length in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 2 months ago
Yeah. Sorry Allen.
Based on the advice above, i checked that site again. 1/0 is on sale for $42 per five foot length. You can add the connectors yourself, but price will probably end up near the quote you already have.
If the battery fits under your seat, the standard VW cables will work.

Yup.
Had I read your initial post more closely, I’d have noticed your new gauge came with a new sender. Absolutely…use all the new parts. 😉

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Battery Cable Length in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 2 months ago
Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess the battery under the passenger seat (i.e.: stock VW location).
There is plenty of room for the heater duct to run between the battery and the bodywork.
Caveat…if a different manufacturer, your situation may be different.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Question About Tonneau Covers in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 2 months ago
I have left the tops on my TDr and on my ’65 Plymouth down for months at a time with no problems.
If you find it a bit snug when you raise it, sit the car in the sun for a while. The vinyl will warm up and relax.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Question on Dolphin Gauges in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 2 months ago
We need to know the Ohm operating range for the Dolphin and Royal Cockpit gauges.
If they are the same, your sending unit will be fine. If they are different, you will need a new sending unit to match the Dolphin gauge.
Standard VW is 73 Ohm Empty/ 10 Ohm Full

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Question About Tonneau Covers in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 2 months ago
I should clarify…
The Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess top does not fit inside the body. It rests on top of the body when folded. But it only overhangs an inch or two, so it would be easy to have a tonneau cover made to fit over it.
The bow hinges mount to the top of the bodywork also. So there is no way the top would drop within the body. The…[Read more]
