I’ll stick with my recommendation above. However, if you are simply going to put in an additive, you may want to use one of the “marine grade” since our fuel systems all breathe, unlike newer engines. See:http://petelandrysrealgas.com/2013/02/why-marine-formula-sta-bil-should-be-your-fuel-additive-of-choice/

If you want to keep it ready to run for those unexpected but greatly appreciated semi nice days throughout the winter then a battery maintainer along with an additive to combat the ethanol in the gas tank should suffice.

Royal replied to the topic Brake Master Cylinder Leak in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 9 months ago
Hate to say it, but I had a similar problem this year. Ended up that I had a hairline crack in a new master cylinder – it’s almost impossible to tell at the time, since you (or at least, me) will get brake fluid over pretty much everything. Also, I got a brand new stop light switch that leaked fluid. Lots of wasted time.

I know that there are lots of schools of thought on this one. Here’s my advice: (knowing you live in the Buffalo, NY area)1. Change the engine oil.2. Empty the fuel tank into 5 gallon cans for your snowblower. 3. Run the engine until the carburetors are dry and the engine runs out of fuel and stops. This is especially important with cars…[Read more]

The engine is sold. It’s going in a ’61 ragtop, owned by a guy named Mike. Hope to have pics in the spring.

That one caught the attention of the guys on the MG Experience forum. The wheels.
You could not really pick worse wheels for a TD.And the heck of it is, this guy had to do work to make those wheels bolt up.Note also the lack of louvers on the side panels.Clearly, he had a vision. All that said, it looks like a complete car. With some time and a… -

Since you “just did a front brake conversion” if you are using 14″ wires, you may have an interference problem. (See my disc brake conversion thread.) If you are using 15″ wires, I believe you will have no clearance problems.

Hey Nobody, get your pipe, slippers, bathrobe and laptop out. Then settle in for a pretty thorough and lengthy discussion, including pros and cons, with all of the TDr kingdom about the conversion. Just “search” on our TDreplica site for “wire wheels” by Royal from “any date”. It was done the summer of 2012. Good luck. (I had a lot more…[Read more]

I guess we all agree, as I thought, the 35 mpg claims are a bunch of malarkey.

My TDr had stock VW wheels when I bought it. I re-tapped the brake drums and mounted the adapters and 72 spoke wire wheels from a Triumph Stag. Everything was done by me, in my garage without fancy equipment after a lot of head scratching and worry. One of my first steps was to appraise the trueness of my “new” wires. To do this, I bought a…[Read more]

I think I read that ethanol free gas gives you about a 5% increase in mileage. (After the carb is adjusted for the richer fuel.)

edward ericson replied to the topic 35 mpg? in the forum General Discussion 10 years, 9 months ago
Ethanol-free has to help the gas mileage a little.

I’ll handle the 14 vs 15″ question. I run P185/75R14″ on my VW TDr. They are almost exactly the same outer diameter as 165/15″ that most VW’s run. They are slightly wider, but I doubt that they would interfere with anything.
