25-26 with the old engine. I expect better from the Soob. One Speedster guy (with a carb on his!) claimed 38 or 39 running from Canada to Florida and back. But, no, it’s not possible with a type 1.

Ed, I only said that it was the “prettiest” swap. It looked like it belonged…. and in the 50’s you could get hot rod stuff for them, functional as well as bling. The 60 hp flathead was a different block, in fact, I believe it shared very little with the larger of Ford’s flatheads. And it was a willing engine that became very popular in midget…[Read more]

The prettiest V8 conversion I ever saw in a TD was a 60 HP flathead Ford.

YAAAA!Big ups on that find, John. Good on Leno too, for getting Wilwood to make a TD kit.I love what he did with the grille. One of our members has a replica fitted with a cammed-up 283. Looked like it had Nissan Altima wheels, which to my mind are the closest thing to a TD wheel in modern cars. 4 x 4 1/2 bolt pattern, 15 holes, 15 x 6.His… -

Nice of you to share your toys with her. That photo shows a rather large expanse of clear workspace. Nice going.

Minor progress. Cut up that big table and made a smaller, rolling table for my wife.

Yeah, I read that article last spring when I was making Bridget’s new fuel system. That SAE 30R9 stuff ain’t cheap, which is why I ripped out the steel lines from the donor Suby and bent them to fit.
Reminds me I still need to make a more durable bootleg “swirl tank” to keep the pump happy for autoX on less than half a tank. -

Getting ready for the fabrication shop to call for the cage install. Running boards came off as planned and the rear cover is off for the cage’s rear supports.

If we had a “required reading” list for folks who are new to older automobiles, this article should be at the top. If your hoses have not been upgraded to be ethanol tolerant, they WILL get you. Easy and inexpensive to upgrade, putting it off often leaves you high and dry alongside the road. Often, neglect requires cleaning the carburetor(s).

Chrome slats were rare on originals. Some Mark IIs got them, not all. Slats were painted, int color or, on some red cars, body color. Also painted were headlight buckets after about June of 1950. (From memory. The TD guru site will have correct specifics).

The original grille will require alterations to the lower portions of the fenders. There will be a large gap across the front also. See the photos in the thread ” Gone and Done it”. If you can do the ‘glass work it’ll look good.

That does look like a pretty viable TDr for the money which, incidentally, is what I paid for Bridget in the fall of 2009.
That ad has been up a while. The market is still pretty thin. -
