The VW cars are mostly IRS. A Miata rear should work but I have not seen one employed as such. last year I saw an actual 53 TD with a super charger and age-appropriate Triumph IRS. But I did not crawl under to inspect.

You should have two wires to the coil. Hot wire coming in and the other going to the distributor. Connect the tach wire to the distributor circuit.

Yes, a flex additive . Used to paint the flex bumpers now found on all new cars.

Not to ruin everyone’s opinion making Dave work (like you-all, I think he should do as much work as we can make him do–or more, even!).
But is there not a paint additive to allow for flexibility over plastic or rubberized parts? And would it not be a little bit easier to just throw a half pint or whatever of that additive into the whole mix & shoot… -

I remember asking that question years ago – did not like the answer but Allen is right – only way to do it.
Hated it then but the end product will really make you happy later. -

If the car needs repainting then chances are the welting needs replacing. Disassemble it and you’ll be much happier with the end result.

If I can scrape up the time, I hope to be able to remove and refinish my shifting knob. 😀

Heads are at the machine shop. Hoping to hear something Friday. Gotta scrape and clean the block where the heads meet it.
After that it’s re-install the heads, reinstall the intake, reinstall the engine.Need to check some things on the transmission too, before it all happens.I have a valve to install that will divert coolant flow through or… -

edward ericson replied to the topic clitch cable snapped, intsallation problems in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 12 months ago
When you put the big end of the cable on the pedal hook, wind and snap a rubber band over it to hold it in place while you get the pedal assembly back in.
I didn’t know about this trick when I did mine, so I had to do it three or four times before it stayed put. -
edward ericson replied to the topic How to install cable shortening kit? in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 12 months ago
don’t use it. Just use the original end and clamp it with two or three cable clamps. You said yourself that jamb nut was fraying/breaking the cable.

I don’t remember, since I did not want gas shocks. I put EMPI #9651 in @ $64 from the V-DUBSTORE.com.

Get rid of the adaptor. Get some clamps. On my car, the original cable was not even cut, just looped and clamped. It was fine when i replaced it “just because it’s old” last winter. Couldn’t get the new one through with the threaded end attached so I cut it and used even more clamps.

Yup Yup Yup.
I bought Bridget in 2009 with the idea in mind that I would convert her to electric using the tried and true DC/Lead Acid method that had worked for hippies with bugs for a generation. That’s why I didn’t look too hard at her engine when I got her.I was sure I could make a car I could commute to and from work with each day, 18 miles… -

Winter before last, my brother built an electric Yugo, as a winter project. His is a 96vdc system and he gets about 35 miles @ 50 mph. But, John doesn’t run the batteries all the way down (it shortens their life). And, he lives in mountainous country which puts a lot of stress and gobbles up amp-hrs. Also, he lives in a colder climate…[Read more]
