Bump.
There are a lot of new TDr owners who seem interested in improving the ride of their new “ride”. Discussions about front leaf removal, shocks, coil overs, removing sand (weight) from the front, alignment etc abound.IMHO, the very first thing one should do is free and you won’t even get dirty doing it. See Ed’s excellent discussion and… -

I have speaker wires running to a headphone jack in the parking brake housing. iPhone via Bluetooth to the radio. With the acquisition of a new dash panel, I think I’ll just delete the radio entirely and just use Bluetooth ear buds with the iPhone.

Here’s a small one, done on a Bridgeport Mill. I submit you could do as well with a drillpress if you made a die frame for the piece and moved it very carefully as you went.
All that said, If I were you I’d use the aluminum to make a center cluster (engine-turn that!) and use a piece of 3/8 marine ply for the main dash. Cover it in marine vinyl (I… -

I’ll take them if not already spoken for. I remade my top years back but never got to doing the side curtains.

I’m attaching some marketing photos (postcards) that I have not seen elsewhere. Included is the photo of the raw steel frame, of which my Roadster does not have. Mine is definitely the VW frame. I have not seen these photos elsewhere, perhaps they are of some value.
I also have a general maintenance manual (PDF) that I cannot upload here (size…[Read more]

Screen or no, a bunch of rust and crap could be blocking the teeny tiny fuel outlet in the tank. That’s what sidelined me in the first couple weeks of ownership. Tank got below half or so, and she’d stall on the way to work.

I also run a cable from the battery to a central post inside the car for common ground. I never had a problem with those circuits.

Steve: No worries on the gauge. Just letting you know if you go that way.
I re-did mine a few years ago trying for the “authentic” look. Noticed that the stock ’72 Bug Speedo reads to the correct 100 mph, includes a totally usable fuel gauge (mine was dodgy), is close to the TD-correct 5 inches in diameter and could be retro-fitted with a white… -

Dick,Sure looks like a VW frame. The tunnel seems unmistakeable. I had some brochures that showed the custom frame and always wondered if that was pure marketing fiction. which reminds me to go through all the old paperwork. As my mother was the original owner there might be something in there to add to the London Roadster research thread….I…[Read more]
