oh, I forgot — I also thought I had “elephant feet” valve adjusters on each valve — as Kentt suggested
But it turns out that I have SCAT ball adjusters: SCAT Swivel Ball Style Valve Adjusters (Courier Adjusting Screws), are MUCH easier on the valve than standard valve adjusting screws, especially for you guys running non-stock camshafts or 1… -

Best to Patti. -

I’m told that the control arms are designed to snap. This saves the mounting points from pulling and distorting the unibody. Sometimes auto engineers use their heads.billnparts2014-06-04 03:42:32

Kent, you’ve got the right word: pesky. When we took the carb off the car and rebuilt it, I noticed that the o-rings that go around the idle mixture had hardened and cracked, and crumbled…another victim of ethanol. The idle jets pull fuel from a small inaccessible chamber that pieces of the rubber had migrated to. Used air and carb cleaner to…[Read more]

Tire pressure! I’d completely forgotten about this.
Check your tire pressure. Should be about 16 lbs in front, maybe 24 in back. If it’s more you might see this wandering in the wind effect. -

Yow.
Glad she’s OK & you’re insured. The lower control arm on that rear passenger corner looks like it might need some straightening. -

What a way to start the day. This was on Patti’s way to work. A Nissan Pathfinder changed lanes without looking.(Yes, they were cited). Spun her around and bounced her off a curb before stopping in the middle of the highway. She was unhurt and managed to drag it to the shoulder. All the Pathfinder suffered was a scuff on the front bumper cover.

Hey all,
I did get an answer back from the engine tuner in Ohio — here;s what he said to my question about top RPM and shift point:Hi,I will conservatively say 5500 RPMS. I asked our engine builder and he said that’s a good place to start. Do you know what type of connecting rods and valve springs you have in the engine? If you have some dual… -

While we’re on the subject of the Steering Box and adjusting same, I just came across this post from a guy whose job was rebuilding VW steering boxes in the 1990s. Go about halfway down thsi thread to the post by hotrodsurplus. It is very worth reading whether you plan to turn the screws on your steering box or already did…[Read more]

That’s why I asked, Jack. If you buy a rev limiter and/or a shift light you ought to know about where the engine is designed to make power, and where it’s over-revving, so you can set it up.
Typically in big VW builds you find these numbers two ways.* Or actually you combine the ways.Way number 1 involves talking to the builder and getting his idea… -

Hey Mike,
While you have the car that far apart, you may want to consider moving the e-brake back aft of the shifter so that you can reach it easily. Ed has a really good post on how he did the move, and I have posted my results of moving the e-brake on my FiberFab kit. Now is the time…..take a look at the past posts — it will be much easier i… - Load More
