Jeez, I forgot and left out my first car which was exotic (as in strange and rare): Crosley.

Actually none of the above. Built a gas powered (1st of 4) car at 14 and motorized bicycle at 15. My passion is making things that go vrooom! Mechanical work. I grew up in the country where if you didn’t do it yourself, it didn’t get done. Was a Nuclear Engineer for a long time. But, nobody wants nuclear power, and the red tape became too m…[Read more]

The space suit would be to keep all the body parts together when you fall out.

Thanks Paul. It’s not that hard.. Just measure the faceplate that came with the radio. Then measure the faceplate that came with the radio. (repeat 32 times) Then transfer the measurements to a nice piece of wood. Check the transfer for accuracy. (repeat 17 times). Then carefully cut with scroll saw or band saw or jig saw. Then throw the wh…[Read more]

Paul, Made both the faceplate and the knobs. The factory faceplate was cheap and ugly plastic. The chrome like plastic knobs stuck out so far that I thought they endangered the passenger. Had to cut the knob shafts down and turn (wood lathe) the knobs.

Here is my new installation. It works as well as any old radio, just not fancy. I do like the weather channel though, it’s the button just to the right of the AM/FM slider. Truth is, I usually enjoy the sound of the engine and my radio is usually off, and when it’s off it works as well as any of the most expensive radios with Bose speakers

It should be tight. If the weather is warm, it should be tight. If it’s cold, you might think it’s too short… If you can’t get it to close over the windshield, maybe try adjusting the middle hoop so it lays down. Get the top up and then try to get the hoop up after that.

A few weeks ago, I put a different radio in my TD, but I sense that it was for different reasons. My prior radio was one of those fancy dangled things with all sorts of go fast sexy displays that pulsed with the music and had enough power to drive my big Bose system ( I know, I tried it.) BUT, – you couldn’t see the darn dial in sunlight as in “…[Read more]

Dipstick test is probably good, but my old mother could always hold much hotter pots then me. A meat thermometer set down in there will give you better data. 220 F is still OK.Yeah on the separate-top-from-bottom job. Should not be too hard. At 5000 feet you’ll probably want to lean the mix a tad to account for the thinner air. But running it at…[Read more]
