The ’80’s were a terrible time for engines. They typically had 3 miles of vacuum hoses with dozens of time delay vacuum check valves, solenoids, and relays all in an attempt to meet federal emission regulations. If your engine is missing all this stuff, I can only think that is a good thing.

An update that there’s no update. I’m waiting for the domain name transfer to happen, which typically takes 7-10 days. Perhaps I was too hopeful it would have happened quicker. After that it will be a day or two to get my act together and start in on the weekend directly thereafter.

285 is OK for a cylinder head temp. Oil should stay below 230F. But, right: our gauges are suspect.

good thing you noticed the wobble before it was too late. She’s gotta go and importantly, she’s gotta stop. Yes, reducing the air pressure to around 16 or 17 pounds in the front will make it ride a little better. Some of the guys have put some weights in the front to compensate for the light front end or have taken some of the springs (torsion…[Read more]

Hey, Phillip! Welcome to the forum.
Your problem sounds solvable. Can you tell us the manufacturer of your steering wheel? Or better yet, show us a picture? It’s a little fiddly to upload a pic to this site but I think that process is going to change within the next week or two.Meanwhile: have you tried ebay search and amazon search? I put in “VW… -

Back together again. Chrome bolts and nuts and washers with stainless on the bonnet. Took it for a short run and seems to be tracking very nicely. I also cut a one inch hole over the box and bought a 1 inch plastic plug. Need to find a one inch chrome one! 🙂 -

Well I got it all apart. The Nuts and bolts that were used had chrome head caps but the treads were rusted very badly. I had to destroy the chrome caps to get the bolts out. (vice grips will do that) I plan an replacing all of the nuts and bolts with stainless so If I have to ever do this again it should be a simple process. The previous owner had…[Read more]

As Paul mentioned in another thread we have been working on moving the site to a new forum software. I wanted to start a thread to post updates and track the changes. My hope is it will all go smoothly, my expectation is, there will be troubles along the way.The change is needed as PCSWeb, our server hosting provider, is shutting down. So we need…[Read more]

We may be offline for a few hours when the transfer happens. I’ve got it mostly scripted but there are some parts I’ll have to do manually after the forum database imports. Waiting for the domain transfer, hopefully will be done within the week.stephenhouser2016-05-29 11:44:29
