secretagentcat replied to the topic Breather Tube in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 3 months ago
Sometimes oil will travel up the tube when the engine is hot perhaps they didnt want the oil leaking and chose to plug it rather than let it breathe. I put a different air filter at the top of the tube that runs from my oil fill tube to my air filter. I found that oil had sprayed all over my splash guard and onto the back of my spair tire. Hey Brothers and Sisters
I’m also located in So Cal. I live in Huntington Beach and also in East Highland Ranch. Not far from Sun City.Just a thought, wouldn’t it be great to arrange an annual event here on the West Coast for those who can’t make it back East for all the fun we’ve been reading about? I love to read about new members out he… -

I was having similar problems with my lights and such. I was tired of trying to find the bad ground so I installed ground bars in the front, under dash and in the rear engine compartment. Each electrical fixture that needs a ground has it’s own ground wire that leads to the ground bar. I have a comon ground that goes from the battery/frame co…[Read more]

Hey BrotherMy mechanic said to see if the main pulley will move back and forth if you pull on it. If it moves then its your main seal. If not, check the breather tube you may have oil leaking out when the engine is hot. Hope this helps.

I have two, myself. My wife tried to say something but I stopped her and reminded her that what we paid for her Lincoln Navigator I could have a fleet of kits and drive a different one to work each day of the week… She never said another word.As for the pricing, if you do sell, I paid $6,000.00 for mine and feel that I got a great deal. Thanks again, BrothersThose examples of the dash work look great! My only concern is with the sun reflecting back on me. The top stays down unless its raining and many a time Ive returned home lobster red and that was with the wooden dash. I do want it to keep that original look so Im looking to possibly cover it with an exotic vaneer like Burl…[Read more]

Thanks again, all the advice is really appreciated. I ran the wires last weekend but left the grounds for last. For the wires, I bought a VW wire kit and made changes as needed. All of the wires are color coded and the kit came with a detailed wire map. The big change I made was the fuse pannel. The kit came with a pre wired 6 fuse power…[Read more]

Great to read about the progress. I’m currently in the middle of rewireing Eliza Jane and I had a blast this Saturday working bumper to bumper on her. I too am looking at new guages and will replace the old wooden dashboard, guages, and steering wheel. It’s funny how when you start on one project other items will jump up and say “ME… -

Check the rubber plugs on the carb for cracks. My car acted up a couple times and that solved it. Also there is a disk about the size of a dime on the front of the carb I had mine come loose and the car wouldnt run until I fixed it. Check the jet for a blockage sometimes small rubber particles come off the supply hose after the filter and block…[Read more]
