I had an old Beetle that I rebuilt and had the same problem on reassembly. Turns out I had plug wires crossed. Couldn’t be that easy could it?

Thanks for the compliments. I have not tried putting the windshield down so I am not sure if it does. I drove the car from Indiana to West Virginia.
