July 19, 2010 at 11:21 am #241792Do you need a complete wireing harness and fuse box for the car or are you only needing to add additional circuits to what you already have?

July 19, 2010 at 2:16 pm #241797Jack, Thanks for the pictures. It can look really scarey up under any dash but I can see that you have reason to be concerned. I saw at least three circuit breakers . Did the builder use breakers in stead of fuses or is the fuse panel just not shown in the pictures?
Click on the search button at the top of the page and type in ”wiring harness”and you can check out some other member’s wiring problems and also some solutions.
Search the internet for several different makers of wiring kits for almost any application.
I don’t know where you can get a MP LAFER wiring diagram but one for almost any kit car using a VW for the donar car should be a good place to begin.
July 19, 2010 at 9:10 pm #241798I have an excellent wiring diagram of a vw I believe the 66 – 70 is in color and the 70 -77 is black and white in researching the brizilizn Lafer they tried to use as many vw internal parts as possible the other thing only because I’ve watched a few friends try to rewire vehicles I’m a true believer in starting over Buy a Kit harness and start from the middle out. There is a good harness and some practical knowhow at Kit car Magazine http://www.kitcarmag.com/howto/painless_wiring_kit_install/i ndex.html
There was also a great article last month on “New Age Wiring”

Thats what I would do if I were Trying to rewire a car.
July 19, 2010 at 9:23 pm #241799I dunno. ‘cept for the frayed wires and the masking tape bits (are those labels?) it looks pretty normal to me. Those Lafers are “factory built” y’know!
What’s not working? why not trace out any bad circuits first, then slowly and methodically unplug everything from the back, one switch at a time, and remove each switch and reconnect under or away from the dash? Then you can count circuits, calculate load (don’t forget Ohms Law) and get yourself a nice little fuse box and the appropriate fuses (VWs work nice, I hear). Then get yerself a little spool of 10 gauge wire, a little bigger one of 12 gauge and a bit more than that at 14 gauge and go to work.
Shouldn’t be beyond anyone’s ability . . . unless your Lafer has the rare power window & door locks option, heated four-way power seats and that crazy auto re-start feature . . .
July 19, 2010 at 11:46 pm #241800Jack,
Is you Lafer a front engoine or rear engine?
If it is rear engined, i can provide wirign schematcs from Classic Roadsters. It really should not be that much doffernet from kit to kit.
If you really want to pull all the wiring, Ggoogle dune buggy wiring harnesses or street rod wiring harnesses. There are several sources out there.
