Hey errbody! It’s not too early to start thinking about getting to Carlisle May 20, 2011 for the Import & Kit Car Nationals . . . nationals . . . nationals.
The Speedster dudes are already toting up the membership; their Dr. Clock will be wrangling hotel rooms and making an itinerary for the “Speedsters Meet Spyders” hootnanny. For those who’ve been, you know. For those who’ve not, I’m saying it’s fun. They welcome interlopers. I’m planning to get there early this coming year to better experience the situation.
Hoping we can muster up a few more TDs to offset & counterbalance the Porsche contingent.
(Paul, hope I’m not stepping on or in anything here)
Mark your calendars. Let’s meet up.
PMOSSBERG 40521.0506134259 November 19, 2010 at 11:23 pm #242847Party on Ed!
Advertise the heck out of this!
And I swear we WILL have at least one more TD this year! I will not show up in my Volvo. 😉

December 9, 2010 at 8:44 am #242852Thanks, Paul. I’m waiting until the 17th to book. There seems to be some thought that the end-of-year discount could apply to the SOC rate.
December 9, 2010 at 9:11 am #242853Ed,
What end of year discount?
You’re not going to find a lower rate on the Hotel Carlisle for that weekend.

December 9, 2010 at 1:47 pm #242854Theres a continual open house at the wobby rolling palace
December 9, 2010 at 2:55 pm #242855Some of the worst thunderstorms I have ever seen have rolled through Carlisle during some Import/KitCar Nationals weekends.
Mostly when they used to be on Mother’s Day weekend. Maybe there was a message there?
Having safe shelter in the Wobby rolling palace may be quite valuable!

December 17, 2010 at 2:24 pm #242857Just made my reservations at the Hotel Carlisle, May 20 and 21. Plan to get there Friday late morning.
Signed in with the Speedster Owners Group. We park next to them & by bolstering their numbers they (we) get a handy shade hut.
With Wobby coming with a camper that’ll make us well provisioned.
Let’s see if we can muster up a healthy contingent this year.

December 17, 2010 at 7:21 pm #242859In a couple years we’ll have enough TD people to have our own club and tent!
December 18, 2010 at 10:10 am #242860Ed,
That will be the day – I have never seen more then 3 in one place – come on
guys – prove me wrong!
December 18, 2010 at 10:31 am #242861Would love to be there, but 1100 miles is a little to far for me. Wouldn’t have much butt left.
Sarge
December 18, 2010 at 4:30 pm #242862C’mon, Sarge! With that V-6 you could make 1100 miles in half a day! Plus, I’m dying to see that car in person. You’ll be the hit of the show.
If you do change your mind, you probably won’t be the farthest comer though: One guy in Cali has a six cylinder (911-powered) Speedster he’s making noises about driving to Carlisle.
IM-6 Speedster, meet (German-made) V-6 MGTD! How cool would that be?
December 18, 2010 at 5:40 pm #242863For you potential long distance runners…as we get closer to May, the Speedster Owners group will be forming up caravans from various places.
We’ll keep you up to date here in case anyone wants to or is able to link up with one of their groups.

December 18, 2010 at 6:19 pm #242864I’m only about 600 miles away, but not sure my tail would make it. Usually about a hours trip away is max. We usually dont take her on the interstates, no telling how long or far it would be takin back roads. Thought about trailer, but what fun is that? Still tring to decide. Anyone else from the Ohio area planning the trip. Caravan sounds fun and a bit safer.
December 18, 2010 at 8:29 pm #242865Montie! I was afraid to take Bridget on the interstate until I realized my speedo was off by 20 percent. Now it’s a breeze. And you with a 2.3(?)
You gots power to burn and all-important ballast over the front wheels. Why you no like the highway? Too windy up there at 90mph?
If those CA speedster boys go they’ll be flying right past you in Ohio, I think. We’ll get you in touch with them if you decide your butt is up to the punishment.
You won’t regret it.
(probably)
December 18, 2010 at 9:00 pm #242866Granted I was a few years younger, but as I’ve mentioned here before, my TD and I have done round trips NJ to Indianapolis and NJ to Cincinnati. And we’ve been through New England a bunch of times.
You can do this Montie.
(Of course you can always flat tow it!)

December 18, 2010 at 10:16 pm #242867Me and Mossberg and Wobby and Schu (Schu, right? Or are you going Speedster this year?). That could be four right there. But if we could get 2-3 more TDs those Speedster guys would sh*t. Especially if we bring on a couple righteous Detroit-powered, engine-ahead-of-the-windscreen bruisers.
I thought there was a couple other New England-based members who might be in range. Maybe could caravan down w/ Richard.
I’m thinking it’s possible. I’ll def. buy an extra bottle of Pimms to toast (& share) if it happens.
Either way, looking forward to it already. And I got a lot of work to do before then.
December 18, 2010 at 11:05 pm #242868Ha!
Me too Ed.
The 1776 long block is still sitting on the floor of my (very cold) garage!

December 19, 2010 at 9:33 am #242869Gots me one of them there propane dealies.
$120 from Lowes. Gotta crack a window or door to keep from dying of CO, but even in that cavernous space it picks up the inside temp enough for epoxy to cure. Got the beam all together, just filling up the holes in the frame head with some metal before re-installing with the caster shims. Will post that saga elsewhere.
December 19, 2010 at 10:11 am #242870Ed/Paul,
Thanks for the encouragement, I did a search on google maps, It’s about 422 miles by I-70 approx 7.5 hrs and 488 miles back roads 10.5 hrs…
We stay away from highway speeds mostly due to tires, they look new only about 5000 miles on them but they are over 10 years old. Kinda holdin off replacing them untill I can convert to tru-wires at the same time. Maybe this spring??
Wind is a smaller issue for me, co-pilot doesnt like it so much. Still trying to persuade her. Ive tried several different styles of wind screens behind the seats, so far nothing to brag about.
I may attack the seat bottoms this winter with the cut out/webbing idea. I forget who suggested it but it sounds good on paper. We have tried several foam rubbers, pillows even thought about a donut, (don’t want to go there), everything flatens out to rock HARD board after about an hour. I seem to remember back in my Spitfire, Fiat 850, Midgit etc, (I think Ive had 1 of everything thru the years) days their seats were not much better either. I was ALOT younger then too, it didn’t matter so much.
