It?s been a very very long time since I?ve visited here and since Paul has taken over the Admin dutie.s I have take a long break from Admin duties from any websites. But, I see the SPAM/SPAMMER issues still plaguing the forums here so I?ve done a little research and found an update to the Forum software.
Over the next couple of days, I will be working on getting the upgrade to version 10.x uploaded and running on the web server before attempting to migrate the database over. I really hope I can get it up and running quickly since getting the database converted is going to be the real challenge.
I truly hope I can get all the old posts migrated into the new forums and not have to leave an archive copy of the old forums up. This should all happen in the back ground without anyone noticing but I may need to take the site off line for one day to complete the move but I will let everyone know when that will be and for how long I expect it to be.
Paul has been doing a great job as Admin here and I really hope this upgrade take some of the work load off. Please stay tuned as I hope to bring you all a better product in very near future.

Great to hear from you!
Do you realize that just about all the current active members don’t know you truly exist?
Hope all is well with you!

February 14, 2012 at 9:56 pm #249174Ok, I broke the Forums for a little while this evening while getting the database in sync with the new forum software but I did fix it, somewhat. I’m still working on getting the graffics and look back into someting MG related but please be bear with me as I’m doing all this in my spare time.
Good news is we are now up and running on the latest version of the Forum software. That includes a few helpful things in preventing SPAM. Bad news is it’s the FREE version and not 100% functional with all of its functions but I am evaluating the FREE version to see if it will meet the sites needs. If not, I will purchase the full version license.I will keep everyone posted on my progress and you should see some changes here and there as I get it all sorted out.Until then, it should remain functional and users can still post and send messages. If anyone see anything broken within the forums, please let me know so i can investigate it…Happy posting!!!!!!!!!!!February 15, 2012 at 9:48 am #249175Frankie ..the forum looks great !..is there any chance of bringing back the “Active topics” chioice?
thanks so muchjohnFebruary 15, 2012 at 10:00 am #249176Agree…like the new format but can we bring back “Active topics”?
Thanks for all the workFebruary 15, 2012 at 10:39 am #249177jebarry wrote:.is there any chance of bringing back the “Active topics” chioice?thanks so muchjohnAt the bottom of the forum list, on the main forum page, is a block with the latest posts. It shows all the recent posts. You can also go to the top of the page and click on New Posts (has a gold star by it for now) and click on it and it will show you all new posts from a specific time. Once you get the page there is drop down menu that lets you adjust how what the time period is.
I hope this helps as I don???t’ currently have a way of bring back the “Active Topics” button right now but once I get things sorted, I can check for 3rd party add-on mods that might bring the feature back.

February 16, 2012 at 10:11 am #249183FrankieD,
The upgrade seems to have really helped the spam registration issue.Over the past months, I have been seeing 3 to 4 dozen spam users each day. And probably a dozen or so spam posts. This morning when I checked for new registered users, we had ZERO, And there were no spam posts this morning!Yay!Paul Mossberg
