Anyone got $60,000 to “loan” me?
This is too cool to not share. I’d love to have this “replica” sitting in my living room!A Christie’s employee poses next to a 1/3 scale replica Aston Martin DB5 used in the film “Skyfall” during the press preview of “50 years of James Bond – The Auction” at Christie’s auction house in London on Sept. 28. The model is expected to fetch 30,000 – 40,000 GBP (46,000 – 60,000 USD). To celebrate the 50th anniversary of James Bond on film, Christie’s is holding an auction of Bond memorabilia from the archives of EON Productions.Paul Mossberg

September 28, 2012 at 5:01 pm #251983Wow. Is that a one-off? How detailed? Any info on why they needed a third-sized scale replica?
September 28, 2012 at 6:36 pm #251984The text I copied in is all that nbcnews had on their web site.
Based on the one picture, I bet it is likely there is a fairly detailed
interior, but no engine/drivetrain. The machine gun ports are open, so I
also bet the wheel spinner/tire cutters extend, the rear bullet shield
extends and the license plates probably revolve. Heck, if Corgi could do
it on the 1/43rd I had as a kid, these guys can in a 1/3 scale model!I thought this was a model used in shooting the movie, because nbcnews said “…replica Aston Martin DB5 used in the film….”
But I found a web site that describes it as “…a post-production 1/3 scale replica miniature model manufactured by
Propshop at Pinewood Studios of the Aston Martin DB5 used in SkyFall.”http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/news/christies-auction-reveals-skyfall-products
This is how Reuters describes it:
Among the highlights for him was a one-third
scale model of an Aston Martin DB5 used in the filming of “Skyfall”, the
next Bond adventure which hits the screens in October. The car was used in earlier Bonds and has become closely associated with the fictional double agent.
“In Skyfall we go back to the old Aston Martin, the DB5, we bring that out of mothball,” Wilson said.
“We
used it in the film but we had to make a model of it. We made an extra
model, one third scale … that was made for the film and I think that’s
a pretty unique thing to get.”http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/09/28/film-jamesbond-auction-idINDEE88R07320120928
