Welcome. I have a London Roadster that I drove down to Phoenix from the Seattle area. Re-built a new block, yet still waiting on parts to get her running again.

Can someone rotate our new friends’ photo, please?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have so many questions about my London roadster, but I don’t know how to start.
How do I know it is really a 1986 London roadster replica? Seller (2nd owner) said it is an Mg3 replica. How do I restore it to make it an authentic London roadster replica? There is not much in the internet about 1986, mostly 1952s.
    Has a 1978 VW engine.

Marilou, Welcome.  My best advice is to set War and Peace aside and learn how to get the most out of this site, doing lots of experimenting around with the search function.  There is a ton of info here already.  But, this is not to discourage questions.  There are many LR owners aboard and much has been written about the LR TDr.  All will be willing to help with your questions.

First, let me say that a LR is really a London Roadster factory built Daytona MIGI.  (I’m talking about the fiberglass here, not the mechanical underpinnings.)  The only difference in the body work that I have ever been able to determine is that the LR factory put pinstriping on.

Regardless of what the prior owner said or even what the registration or title says, your car is a replica of a 1952 MGTD.  Fuggedabout 1986.  ….a Mg3??   No!  My guess is that the 2nd owner didn’t really know much about his car.  That’s ok, it doesn’t really matter.  Think 1952, even though it was assembled later.

Most of us on the site strive for making our cars (regardless of manufacturer) look like authentic “real” MGTD’s.  ..and I think that is what you might want to consider rather than making it look like a London Roadster.

Thank you for responding. You have a point there, it was probably assembled in 1986 but replicating a 1952 MGTD. I have seen 2 or 3 LRs calling them 1981-1986, but I see a lot more of with 1950s description.
Thanks again. Will search the site.Maricar192015-04-04 09:44:05

My research on the London Roadster pretty much has turn up nothing . It was built on Michigan Ave in Inkster Mich I do have the exact address someplace if you want it let me know . I have contacted all of the historical groups that I have found in the area including the Ford Museum. I have filled out forms in several places .
Nothing ! Royal is right your best place for information is here .           I see your from PA some of us will be in Carlisle PA mid May . Check it out . British imports replica weekend .greg press2015-04-04 11:07:14

Welcome aboard. Is that a MGTD Lafer I’m looking at?

    Appears to be London Roadster.

I think all the Lafer doors were conventional, hinges forward and handles back (although radio antenna does make this one look a little like hinges on passenger side).

Thought I would add to this, I didn’t realize some of these cars didn’t have the radiator cap and emblem piece until looking more at this one and seeing others just now.

Two things that are unique to the London Roadster is the emblem by the antenna and the side gas fill on the driver’s side. Most of the London Roadster owners here have steel chassis , not the VW pan. Mine is also a 1986.
