Thanks to a super abundance of patient assistance of lots of our forum members my Beatrix is motoring along the back roads of Sussex County, NJ. My #bucket list project is now a reality.
The four month process of NJ titling surprisingly and pleasantly ended in registration of my 1987 CMC kit as a 2015 MGT with a corresponding new car five year (2020) inspection sticker. They didn’t check the emissions of my 1981 Chevette power plant.
This project began in 2/2010 when I became the fourth owner of a kit that never was started. I purchased it through our TDreplica site from liquidice in Carmel, NY.
Thanks again to my generous benefactors!
And Yes Paul, I am in the registry…

Making it through the process in NJ is quite an accomplishment. NJ is right up there near the top, in terms of “difficulty.”Paul Mossberg

October 19, 2015 at 8:27 pm #265867Great to hear. I know the feeling. I was the final after a string of ‘quiters’. Had to sneak a couple short test drives while waiting 5 months for title. Did you have a title to start ? Vicki got titled as a ’52 MG TD with no emission necessary either. It’s a Chevette power plant. It would be great to see some photos of your work on the roads ,especially in fall.
October 20, 2015 at 2:04 am #265868Almost 6 years later. That’s must really feel like an accomplishment!
I thought it was enough just to get my car bought, towed home, insured and registered. All within a few days! 😆Chevette engine sitting up front looks so much more logical for these cars, even though the VW seems to go well too. Designed for front engines so it just makes more sense to see that, and probably no surprised looks on people’s faces when you open the hood to reveal it.October 20, 2015 at 7:46 am #265869Good on ya, Joe! We need more of those Chevette-powered TDs running around loose in the world!
October 20, 2015 at 10:42 am #265870CONGRATULATION!
I envy guys who are mechanical enough to do projects like yours.
I would love to see pics of your car.
You’re very patient waiting four months for the titling.
I thought things were difficult in Illinois as far as our government goes, but I’ve since learned they are SO needing for cash, they’ll license just about ANYTHING with so little actual documentation.Amor Conquista Todo
October 20, 2015 at 11:03 am #265871A funny note on kit cars and VW engines, I was at the gas station filling Eliza Jane and as those of you with a Classic Roadsters LTD know you remove the eagle hood mascot to access the gas tank for filling. I had an old guy run up on me thinking it was the radiator and yelling at me to STOP because that’s not where the gas goes! I told him the first thing that came to mind which was “she doesn’t like it in the rear”. 😐
The look on his face…Priceless!October 20, 2015 at 11:15 am #265872lol:lol:
October 20, 2015 at 11:35 am #265873That’s a great answer!
I’ve had the same reaction from people when they see my dropping the fuel nozzle into the radiator. But I’ve never come up with such a creative response!Paul Mossberg

October 20, 2015 at 6:32 pm #265874Thanks for the Kudos, everyone. By the way I have a document from NJMV that the required emissions should comply with the requirements for my 1981 Chevette engine and not requirements for 2015 vehicles. I never realized that you VW buffalos had soo much refueling hijinks.
