The brake manufacturers will tell you to replace them in pairs due to the variance in the thickness of the metal and heat distribution.I do sell single drums to garages all the time for their customers working on price alone. With a new rear drum apx. $60 I think it’s your call.

OK, boys. Send me your pictures. Remember: phone shots are too small. Need decent sized files to print big with enough detail for the calendar. With your permission I’ll do the same thing as last year–mock one up and post it for comment, then do whatever I decide.Last chance for someone to steal the project from me and hog all the glory!

I’d not buy used adaptors again without at least inspecting them. Spline wear is very common; usually it’s the real reason they’re for sale.

You can run one new and one turned. They will wear a bit differently but on the rears and with this car you’d never notice. Just make sure you pack the bearings nice and torque the nuts down hard (280-300 ft-lbs) when you put ’em back.

So funny. I was just about to post this. Love the reference to inspection to see if it’s the real deal. I bet in 1985 the roads were just lousy with TD replicas! Here’s to making them so again!

Just got back from a little autum ride, a little chilly with the top down. Refreshing ride and a TD does make a small ride into an adventure. Make’s you feel alive.

Terrific read!
Thanks Ray!Funny thing, that beige and brown color scheme has been on so many replica TDs, people probably think it’s an original color scheme. But all orginal TDs are single color:PMOSSBERG2012-10-16 16:34:37

From the Rimmer Brothers …
Here is the high dollar approach…complete kits, available in 4.5 by 15 and 5.5 by 15:You’d have to make the same drum brake modifications to adapt the hubs. Or if you want to keep writing checks, front and rear disk brake conversion kits are available for the VW… -

Here are 4 TR adapters with 2 eared knock offs for a decent price on eBay. This is step one for a wire wheel conversion using the method described in this thread. This would be for a true 50-60’s British roadster look, not Dayton. All you need after this is 4 or 5 wire wheels, the tires & tubes, lugs and of course the machine work. $80 star…[Read more]

Yeah I’m glad Paul reminded us how to get to the new gallery. Deleting photos is probably something techno related that the web meister has to handle. If I recall correctly, the last time this was mentioned Paul said something to the effect that deleting photos would have to be done through the web meister.

You’re right. All of the photo’s I deleted are still in the New Gallery. Thanks for showing me how to get to the New Gallery. I knew I had gotten in there before but forgot how.
