Run it a bit and see if she settles down.I know you’ve built these motors and so you know what you’re doing, but something sounds wrong, spark-timing-wise. Maybe gap the points on every lobe with a feeler gauge? Just make sure something didn’t go haywire in the disty?

The latest…Replaced the fuel pump, primed the carbs, engine turned over and caught. So that’s a slight improvement. But it stumbles, pops, backfires, and will barely idle. Rechecked the point gap and timing, both are where they should be.The floats are fine and move freely. The needle vales are fine and also move freely. Air does flow through…[Read more]

Tried an idea for installing the new ball joints. Let the trailing arm set in the sun for about 2 hours while the ball joint with rubber boot removed sat in freezer for the same 2 hours. Ball joint lined up and in real quick. Gonna do the same on the other 3 tomorrow. I’ll post photos later.

Well it aint pretty and I have a few issues (no reverse, weak brakes, engine will not shut off when I turn off the ignition) but we had our maiden voyage today. Granted it was only 20 feet but it ran on its own power! Here’s the short video (couldn’t figure out how to upload the video)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5-UQZZX6qc&feature=youtu.beNow…[Read more]

Like Roy, everyday that it doesn’t rain and none is in the forcast (well maybe 20% chance or less). We take her out just about every evening after work for a 20-40 mile ride. Plus the week ends to shows or wherever. Temp for me is not really an issue, got a great heater and a heavy coat as necessary. The wife, well it’s not unusual to see he…[Read more]

My solution is NOT elegant? You gotta be ****in me! “Whacking the crap out of it is? (Not to mention that my cap is almost pretty.) I’m gonna have to look up “elegant solutions” in my dictionary. I think that you would need a cap made of silly putty for your method to work.

Roy: did you “whack the crap out or it” as I described? By stretching the inside forward in order to try to “pull in” the sides? Or did you tap it on the outside to try to “bang it in?”Because the latter method is sure to stretch the metal, and that will slowly make it bigger. The former method, done carefully, might actually make it thinner where…[Read more]

That Lambo door kit is hilarious–I think they also sell it as a hinge set so you can adapt it to anything. Or–at least–a lot of things. Coolest idea off the top of my head would be to get a mid ’60s Lincoln 4-door ‘vert–the kind with the suicide rear doors–and Lamboize all four of them. Man. You put some 24-inch wheels on that, tuck up the…[Read more]

Bill, Year round? Really? Were you living in Pa then? Although I never drove my TDr (nor my TF-1500) in the snow, I would be afraid of them. (Note that I do not even drive mine in rain.) Did you ever put chains on it? Maybe it’s the salt they put on the roads that gave you that lovely patina? 😉

Was going to join Philly MINI on a run that ends there, but a personal scheduling conflict put an end to that. Never been to a polo match. Hope you have fun.

In two weeks I will have owned my TD 3yrs. I keep a diary of every ride I do, starting mileage, where I went on the ride, even if it’s just to the store and back, and then ending mileage. At this point I have put 18,400 miles on the TD, and loved every second of it.
