Too far then. I think you’ve got a deal there for someone handy & with time. Might try posting it on the MG Experience forum.Start on the T & pre-war board but don’t neglect the “dark side” V-8 conversion area. Different crowds on those.Another good place to move that project might be the H.A.M.B. classifieds.

Moss has ’em–$50 or so. Each.Rimmer Bros. might be a slightly better price. Maybe no. Check exchange rates.See ’em used all the time on ebay. I think this is an OK part to get used. The chrome might be pitted or the ears a little dinged but if the threads are good, go for it.Good luck. Great conversion, Roy.

I also have several other TD toys in verious sizes all the way down to a micro machine. So I guess eventually it will be a replica of a replica, of a replica, of a replica, of a replica, etc. I think I’m going mad, my wife already knows it.

Paul,
Rob & Dave seem to disagree with Bentley (http://www.vw-resource.com/fuel_pump.html#test) about the desired push rod length. You may have to referee this inexact science. -

According to my Orange Bentley Manual, Chapter 2, page 7:
Turn the engine by hand until the fuel pump shaft reaches its highest pointMeasure the distance the shaft projects above the intermediate flange. The pushrod should project 13-mm (1/2-inch) If not add or remove gaskets under the intermediate flange to obtain that dimension.Sometimes I… -

I’m not Allen (
) but remember from working on a Ford V8 flathead (adjusted by adding or subtracting gaskets), it is guesswork. (But that was before the wealth of knowledge that one has readily available today on the internet.)

Thanks Paul, That is the sort of user comparisons that I was looking for. Do you know what cam is in your 1776? I am a bit concerned about splitting the case since I do my own work (my 71st birthday is in Sept) and if one is not cutting themselves short by sticking with the stock cam, am inclined to go that way.

Roy,I went form a 1600 to a 1641. I felt no difference. Before my recent problems, I put about 30 miles or so on my new 1776, dual port, dual Solex Pict 34 carbs. My seat of the pants reaction, the 1776 is a great upgrade. It had just enough extra power and torque to make things fun. Once I figure out the current issues, I’ll give you a better…[Read more]

Guys, I decided to let the dual Webers and single port manifolds that I had a lead on go. Y’all have convinced me that if I want a “go fast” engine, I need to embiggen (Ed, I just love that word) my engine. So, I’m thinking of buying a 1971-73 dual port and embiggening until I run out of steam or money as my winter project. This is the same pr…[Read more]

Paul,
Before replacing the fuel pump, check the height of the shaft above the top of the pump adapter. If it’s too short you may have to sand down the block a little bit to let the pump sit down more. That’s how the fuel pump pressure is adjusted. Either add gaskets to reduce pressure or shorten the block just a tad to increase the pressure.

Hi gang.Gotta be the fuel pump. It’s moving some gas, which is why I do see gas at the carbs…more on that later. But apparently not enough. Here is the latest.Embarrassing confession…I previously gas flow all the way to the carbs. NOT! I pulled the tops off both Solexes. Both bowls were bone dry. So gas is NOT making it to the carbs. That’s…[Read more]

I’m leaving my ball joints right where they are, thank you very much! Although this soaking in “PB Blaster” thing….is that some sort of “enhancement” technique?Oh wait. You guys are talking about your cars, aren’t you? Ooops. Sorry!
