And if that mirror does not give you a sight line through the rear window or over your folded roof, you might be able to adapt the slider rod style (same mirror with a different mount):

Here’s anotehrlong “mirror” thread:
From one of my posts in that thread:Most of our cars came with original style TD dash mirrors. In a word…they stink. Very little adjustment range. And they are not steady.I bought a”Cobra” from FinishLine for my TD. Broad adjustment range. It… -

I’m with Dan. I have a simple “two-screw” cowl mounted mirror, and replaced both fender mirrors with convex mirrors in teh original style. I can see fine.

Everything Rob writes is accurate, but I was not sugggesting any of that would need to be done.
Like I wrote, my “hope” was that the hood was simply too long because the manufacturer did not trim it accurately. If that is not the case, I really can’t explain the mis-fit. -

Craig,
I have a old Fiberfab MG TD – I restored it a few years back and just put it all back together so never was in your position. I can however measure mine ( side panels etc. ) and take pictures and email them if that will help. Email me off line if you want to take me up on the offer.dlschu42 at comcat.net Substitute @ for the atDale -

Is there a magic number (length) that the hood should be? If you shorted the hood that means that the side panels will have to be shorten too. Now witch end (front, back, split the diff.) do you take the excess off? Plus both side panels should be the same length, right? Doing all this and making sure the hood assembly still fits in the fen…[Read more]

I used to live up that way….over in the Berkshires. Great country, excellent town and Syracuse is a great school. Congratulations to Lauren and to dear old dad too!
Perhaps the Duchess will be making numerous runs between Bath PA and Syracuse me thinks! newkitman2012-04-30 10:04:37

I also run a suction cup mounted convex rear view mirror.
It’s only about 4″ long. It’s mounted at the windshieldheader for street driving and is easily removed forautocrossing. I’ve also sunk a 2″ convex spot mirrorat the left lower corner of the dash to check the blind spot. -

I’ve got something very much like the original tiny “desmo” mirror and have not found it inadequate. I suppose any of the big “panoramic” clip-on mirrors would slide over it for all-out race use though. And with my car’s performance, I’d see a lot of up-and-comers in it.:-)

Wow Craig,The obvious comment is that they should match up. I know, “duh”.The FiberFab assembly manual assumes some trimming will be needed at the front of the hood, but nothing this drastic. But let’s start there. You’re sure the rest of the body is aligned correctly? And the rear portion of the hood is fitting properly to the front of the cowl?…[Read more]

You can get that same kind of mirror but probably larger and convex giving a wide field of view, from various marine outlets, used when pulling waterskiers. They may be too large for these cars tho.

Donna Bryant replied to the topic '68 wiper switch in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
Finally got the wipers working. Called most every boat supply store, auto parts, etc. looking for a switch for 2-speed wiper with park, no luck with any of them. Went over to the Samba site and found several forum post about wiper switches. Hooked up a simple toggle (on / off / on) by following a drawing that was posted. Wipers are working great!

Nice shot, Paul.I saw it go once when I lived in FL, many years ago. Pretty impressive sight.I’ll be interested to see what the X-Prize people come up with to beat it, since we’re obviously winding down that old school gummit space jobby.

I guess that makes me super smart because I had already “made note”. But, somehow, often the paperwork gets lost along the way. I’m making a metal “id” tag and going to affix it somewhere prominent on the engine.
