Larry,, i guess I was lucky the bottom bolts were 3/8 hex, easy to remove and were also stainless the screws you can see were also stainless i replaced the slotted screws with Philips using stainless with trim washers . all of about 15 minutes to remove. It is longer to replace the panels but not bad . I guess this winter next year i will cut th…[Read more]

The problem with used wires is that the splines in the hubs are often rounded off. Not always, but usually. That’s why people take them off. Then the wheels sit around in a shed for 10 years, or 20, or more, and get a little crusty and rusty. Then someone finds them and they’re like, “Hey! Wire wheels! These are worth money! I’ll sell ’em on…[Read more]

This is something that never happens to the Speedster guys. Or, for that matter, to the Cobra guys.

Dick, On my BCW, the bolts that held the fenders and hood side panel were like a round headed carriage bolt with a square shoulder that gripped the fiberglass and kept the bolt from turning as the nut on the other side was being tightened. The bolts had no slot for a screw driver and having been in place for many years, crud had built up in the t…[Read more]

Funny you mentioned that Ed. I pulled up to stop light yesterday and a woman who was to the right of me and further up, actuall backed up and asked me what year the car was. I told her 1952. She then asked if it was a Rolls Royce. This is the 3rd time people have asked me that since I had it.

The copper strap is the ground connection to the lamp in the gauge. I installed a nut between the meter housing and the mounting bracket to space the bracket off the strip. This also allows for tightening the mounting nuts without over stressing the guage housing. As I recall, I made new aluminum brackets with the correct length legs. Pictures…[Read more]

My dash is all wood. When I insert the gauge through the dash it secures with the bracket which is supposed to draw the gauge up into the bracket. But the bracket doesn’t reach the wood when the gauge is pushed up against the front side. It’s either add a wood strip to take up the distance or fabricate new brackets. Adding the wood spacers (for…[Read more]

If I were you, I’d buy the wire wheel kit from Rimmer Bros and make it fit. The MGB/MGA, Triumph TR3/4 (etc.) knock offs are made to fit on a 4 x 4.5 hub. That’s like 113mm or so. Looking at the hubs, it’s clear that one could re-drill them for a 4 x 100 pattern. Plenty of room for it and won’t hurt the strength any.The correct wheels for a TD are…[Read more]

I guess that some people have a faint recollection that RR’s had a big chrome front grill and that is all they can remember about them. When the guy first asked me about my “Rolls” I laughed. Now I have been asked twice. If my memory ever becomes so bad that I can’t distinguish a Rolls from an MG, – well you wouldn’t want to know.

Ah, got it. Yeah, get another handle, cut a V in, bend and weld. Easy & fun.Great to be able to reach it in an emergency.BTW, driving home from a bull roast today I got the “Is that a Rolls Royce?” routine from a guy in a Maxima.

Thanks Larry. That is what I am looking for. Vertical (or nearly so) is about the only fix that I can think of with a bench seat.

Dick replied to the topic Starter replacement fun in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 13 years ago
How hard is it to remove the vertical left side of the hood to get at the starter?

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Out & About in the forum General Discussion 13 years ago
Roy, If you can find Calafer’s M P Lafer in the old photo gallery , I think he had some really clear pics of an e-brake handle that is near vertical in the original location.

Exceptionally rare that the bracket legs would be too short. They usually make the gauges so that they can be snugged up through a very thin 16 gauge +/- metal dash.

edward ericson replied to the topic Dash Build Mishap in the forum General Discussion 13 years ago
I think you’re right that the strip is a ground. The gauges might give some indication on the back. See if you can find a minus sign somewhere or a GND. As for the quarter inch of bracket shortness, are you including the thickness of your fiberglass ur-dash? Or are the holes in that way larger than your actual dashboard fascia?

Ed, MiGi has the early Daytona bench seat. Gotta rig up some remote handle on the existing location. I’ve read all the threads and this is the only way I can see to do it.
