We’ll stick with the original plan for Sat. night. The Speedster folks were nice enough to invite/allow we TDers to join them. However, I don’t think a TD group or table would upset them.
Rocky – We’ll more than likely head up I-75 to Knoxville and then hit I-81 into Harrisburg, PA. our alternate route will be I-20 from Athens, GA to Columbia, SC…[Read more]

I paid Bruce already but if y’all want to peel off I’m sure he’ll kick it back. I was thinking maybe we should get a TD table going. Also to note: there will be some TD love in the prize drawing.

Guys,
Is everyone that is going to Carlisle going to the Saturday night gig? Seems cost is 30.00 a head – a little high in my book, but I can go either way. Just thinking out loud here, but it might be a good night for the MG guys to have their on gig ( dinner ). I am going to all the rest of the activities ( Thursday – Sunday and I do own a… -

Mike, there is a lot of discussion on the forum about removing leaves. Rockyx did a nice job with great photos. I posted a few also. Everyone removes all but the four big leaves in each tube. Worked perfectly for me.

Backspacing is the distance from the inside bolting surface of the rim to the outer edge of the inboard side of the rim. Offset is the distance from the exact center of the rim to the outer edges of the rim. Positive offset means that the center of the wheel is moved towards the vehicle. Negative offset means that the center of the wheel is…[Read more]

Mike replied to the topic Wheel Back Space in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 2 months ago
Ed it is probably worth checking if you have any handling problems. I would bet this was manufacturing defect as I can only find different wheel spacings on different width steel wheels yet all my wheels were 4-1/2. A fellow I worked with was the one that discovered the offset difference when I had all the tires off and was sanblasting them at…[Read more]

Mike, When I got my car it drove like yours did at first. But…..it handled like a 1948 Jeep CJ2A that I once had. My wife would not ride in my jeep without first donning her sports/jeep bra – even on the highway it was an exceptionally rough ride. And, MiGi’s front end was cranked up in the air so far that it looked un-natural (5-1/2″ fro…[Read more]

That is very interesting. I could see how the different wheel spacings could mess up the steering geometry on your turns; the scrub radius would be different side to side, and then the vectors (toe-in/out) would also be a little off. But I did not know the same width wheels could be so for off.I think mine are all different too–some Brazilian,…[Read more]

Chirco used to sell a dune buggy harness. Might stillOr maybe painless wiring? My check of these hot-rod looms last year revealed some nice, expensive products, but nothing to drop in direct. I ended up buying a few rolls of wire, some connectors, and getting ‘er done with the wires that were already in her. Worked (mostly) but I’ll be chasing…[Read more]

Mark, I think that it is easier to make one. Buy a lot of different colors of wire (14 gauge is good enough for most anything except the main feed, the ground, the horn, headlights and a cigarette lighter)(but bigger is always better here). Oil pressure, temp, generator warning 14 is plenty. 12 gauge for the taillights and stoplights is mor…[Read more]

There’s an online Lafer parts supplier in Brazil. You’ll have to run the words through Google Translate (unless you read Brazilian Portuguese) and convert the price into US dollars. A quick look turned up this:

“green shoots,” as they say in the economics department. That said, I haven’t noticed any increase other than the bump you see every spring. Here’s one doing pretty well, IMHO, on ebay. $5,000 with a few hours left.

Seems to be not only our TDs but prices across the board have risen. Used to be a VW Thing in average condition went for 1500 to 3000. Now they start pretty much around 4500. Other cars on Craigs and the samba seem to be doing that as well.
