Ed, MG’s stock 1250cc engine is (most would agree) a small block. 6800cc +/- is not.

That’s 4-5 normal TD’s worth of dollars there.Meanwhile, there’s this nicely appointed small block powered one.

$62,000 spent, I could believe. $71,000 sale price is a stretch. Good for him if it’s true.

Since you’re keen to keep the old one in place, any chance you could get it fixed–or replaced with one just like it? Having a non-working stereo face in the dashboard just “for looks” while a separate head unit is mounted elsewhere seems just . . . odd. Here’s a company that claims expertise in fixing old car radios. Not an endorsement, but if…[Read more]

Guys, It was the throwout bearing and one of the boots was cracked. I was lucky to find a good vw mechanic in South Florida and he has since overhauled my engine. All I really needed was the throwout bearing and a new boot. But hey, now I have a new engine. My mechanic also noticed the bowden tube needed to be welded in place and that is where I…[Read more]

Wow. Thanks, Roy. Let’s hold off though because Allen stepped up. He says he might have one on the shelf in his garage.Meanwhile, I’ll have a closer look at my switch. I think I might have the later one out of a ’71. It’s got a few more pins on it, though I’m not using nearly all of them.More later. And thanks again.:-)

Ed, I’m sure that I can get you one at my local (Simmons VW Restoration) shop. I will have to pull it myself and the weather is not good. Could be next Monday before I could get to it. Give me an idea of price you are willing to pay (I want nothing). You are talking about the switch to turn on/off, right? Not the Hi/Low beam switch? Send…[Read more]

I wasn’t clear, the stripped Allen is in the body side attachment and not the door itself. Thanks for the door diagrams and advice on the latch but my problem is the very bottom bolt in the body side of the hinge. Looks like its going to be easy out territory and panel removal day, that’s okay because it’s drippy and it’s a fair weather car.

For the door hinge mount in the door I fiberglassed 3/8″ plywood reinforcement to the inside edge of the door and installed T-nuts so the door hinges can be removed without removing the upholstered panel. The hinges are mounted to the body using flat washer, lock washer and nut. Some of the flat washers needed to be trimmed to lie flat. A long… -

Looks like you’ll need a rotary wing rating for the PAL-V. The other one is more of a driving plane than a flying car. Looks like a good performer though. Here’s another version a dude came up with a few years back. Short take off and landing–he says you could take off from a football field and clear the field goal stanchions–so you don’t need to…[Read more]
